Esther, becoming a World War II widow 8 days after the birth of her second child, was a strong and determined woman. She helped raise her children along with six younger siblings, all becoming productive citizens. While the heartache of losing her young husband was crippling, she always knew what she had to do. TAKE CARE OF HER FAMILY.
In spite of her hardships, she remained a strong supporter of American's Military. She was a charter member in the founding of V.F.W. Post 4083, and a member of various other benevolent organizations. Esther truly earned her title as a "member of the GREATEST GENERATION".
Esther is survived by her daughter Sandra McMahon of Winfield, MO, grandchildren: Timothy T McMahon and wife Kimberly, Heather K. Bauer, Michael Helvey and wife Amy, and Kenneth Helvey, great grandchildren: Joshua (Holtkamp) McMahon, Matthew McMahon, Stuart Hutson and Shannon Bauer, step-great grandchild Kaiti Sneddy, great-great grandchildren: Liam Connor McMahon, sisters: Myrna J Swyers of Miami, FL and Donna R Rubie and husband Stephen of St Louis, MO, numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur Lee Helvey December 3, 1944 and husband John Allen Sargent, her son Joseph R Helvey, brothers: William Lewis Christian and Richard "Dick" Christian and sisters: Georgia Diane Morrison and Joan Marguerite Stroud.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 11, 2018 from 9:30 ~ 11:30am at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals ~ Receptions 837 Mid Rivers Mall Dr St Peters, MO. Funeral services will start at 11:30am, with burial following at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St Louis, MO.
