Samuel worked many years in the restaurant business before working at Detroit Diesel Allison (General Motors) in Indianapolis, Indiana before being transferred to the new Wentzville, Missouri plant and relocating his family in 1986. He would later retire in January 2008 after 30 years of service.
Samuel was a diehard Cubs fan his entire life and was happy to live long enough to see them win a World Series. He enjoyed umpiring slow pitch softball for many years and watching his grandkids play in various sports. He was known for his big smile and heart of gold. He never met a stranger and always willing to help others.
Samuel is survived by his wife, Judith Stevens, Children, Tamara (Daniel Batson) Stevens, Brian Stevens, Kevin (Tallie) Stevens, and Kerry (Chris) Skinner, Grandchildren, Angela Parkhurst, Eric Parkhurst, Summer Stevens, Jordyn Stevens, Leah (Andrew) Bray, Lauren Boschert, Paige Stevens, and Samantha Malley, Great-Grandchildren, Alexandria Parkhurst, Elisha Alarcon, Isaiah Parkhurst, and Lincoln Olszewski; and siblings, Joyce McWhorter, Barbara Stevens, and Mark (Terra) Stevens. He will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Stevens and Nannie Louise Stevens; siblings, Max Stevens, Ralph Stevens and an infant sister Cathy Stevens; grandson, Ryan Parkhurst; and a sister-in-law, Kristy Stevens.
Visitation will be held on Friday December 27, from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm will a funeral service following at 6:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, Missouri 63376 (636-875-1200).
