Elizabeth “Ruth” Hallemeier (nee Swagman) age 96 of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 10th, 2022 surrounded by her family at Mount Carmel Senior Living.

Beloved wife of the late Frederick C. Hallemeier; dearest mother of Mark (Debe) Hallemeier, Tom (Genny) Hallemeier, Mary (Ken) Mylenbusch, David (Tina) Hallemeier and John (Aleta) Hallemeier. Survived by 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Frederick C. Hallemeier; parents, Lawrence and Eleanor Swagman; brother, Cletus Swagman; sister, Mildred Halter; and great granddaughter, Sydney Mylenbusch.

Ruth was born June 12th, 1925 in Chesterfield, Missouri on her grandfather Mispagel’s farm. She was the oldest of three siblings, Cletus and Mildred. She attended Lake school and St. Monica’s in Creve Coeur, Missouri and graduated from Clayton High School in 1943.

After graduating, she moved to St. Louis with her aunt Edith (Betz), where she worked for numerous companies including, Emerson Electric and the old record center. The summer before WWII ended, Ruth traveled to Los Angeles, California with her aunt Edith to visit family and to live for a short time. While, there, her uncle Al Mispagel, got her a job with the local phone company. She enjoyed going out to dances in California with her friends during the big band era.

After her time in California, she moved back to O’Fallon, Missouri with her parents to the “old homeplace.” In O’Fallon she met the love of her life, Frederick “Fritz” C. Hallemeier at a dance at Civic Park. They married May 20th, 1950 in St. Paul, Missouri and traveled to Niagra Falls for their honeymoon. They made their home in St. Charles where they raised their four sons and one daughter. Ruth had a career in nursing and worked at several area nursing homes and hopsitals. Ruth and Fritz enjoyed spending time together with their family, gardening and traveling.

After the passing of her husband Fritz, she retired from nursing and spent her time between home, many trips to Naples, Florida with her sister “Millie”, and visiting her three sons in Dallas and Albuquerque.

Ruth enjoyed swimming, taking piano lessons in her later years, growing her prized tomatoes, taking on new adventures and never wavering in her faith.

You could find Ruth every Labor Day weekend at the St. Paul Picnic where her parents and grandparents always worked as members of the community.

Ruth’s story telling, spontaneity, sense of humor, fun loving nature and zest for life was a gift to all that knew her. We will miss her dearly.
