Juan is survived by his Wife, Emily E. Montes (nee Olive) of Saint Peters, MO, Daughter, Jacqueline (Roberto) Montes-Chinnery, Daughter, Norma (Mark) Montes-Wintersmith, Son, Juan (Rachel) Montes, III, Step-Daughter, Kathleen (Philip) Vines, Step-Daughter, Kristi (Scott) Hudson, Step-Daughter, Karen (James) Guglielmo, Brother, late Tomas Huertas-Torres, Sister, Maria (Pedro) Montes-Cruz, Sister, Arcirina (Emilio) Montes, Sister, Carmen (late Orlando) Montes-Wilson, Brother, Pedro Montes, Brother, Julio (Luz) Montes, Brother, Eduardo Montes and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Juan was proud of his Puerto Rican heritage and was an avid baseball player and fan. He was instrumental in developing the Under Sea Rescue on the Islands of St. Thomas and St. John as well as the Junior Firefighting program. He worked for many years for the U.S. Virgin Islands Fire Service and retired as Deputy Fire Chief. For many years Juan was active in Sts. Peter and Paul parish on the Island of St. Thomas as well as All Saints parish in St. Peters for the remainder of his life. Juan will be remembered for his love of family, faith and his profound determination to face life's challenges with the words, "I am blessed".
The family will receive friends at All Saints Catholic Church (5 McMenamy Rd., St. Peters, MO, 63376) on Friday, November 27, 2020, from 12:30pm (CST) until time of Mass at 1pm (CST). To attend the visitation and Mass online, you may go to All Saints Catholic Church - St. Peters Facebook page beginning at 12:30pm (CST). In lieu of flowers, donations to All Saints Parish or The BackStoppers (BackStoppers.org) are appreciated in memory of Juan.
