Allen J. Stern, a distinguished professional and devoted family man, passed away on May 15, 2026. Born on December 3, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri, Allen—known affectionately as Al—led a life marked by service, commitment, and a deep love for his family.
Allen's early years included faithful service to his country in the United States Army, where he earned the Purple Heart during the Vietnam War. Following active duty, he continued serving in the Army Reserves until his retirement, demonstrating steadfast dedication to his nation.
An alumnus of CBC High School, Allen further advanced his education by obtaining a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Management. His professional career was both extensive and impactful. Allen served with distinction in several law enforcement agencies, including the St. Louis City Police Department, the Florissant Police Department, and the St. Louis County Police Department. Subsequently, he embarked on a 30-year tenure as Manager of Industrial Security Services at Boeing St. Louis. In this pivotal role, he supervised and directed critical security measures, ensuring the safeguarding of classified information.
Aside from his professional career, Allen was in the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Association of the United States Army. He was a Shriner and a member of both the Bridgeton Masonic Lodge and the Grand Lodge of Missouri.
Allen’s personality was marked by humor, energy, kindness, and love, traits that enriched both his personal and professional relationships. He held a passion for history and took great pleasure in sharing cherished memories about his family. A skilled do-it-yourselfer and handyman, he also enjoyed fishing and spending quality time with his loved ones, notably his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Proudly, Allen and his wife Ruth shared 54 wonderful years of marriage—a testament to their enduring bond.
Allen J. Stern is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Stern; his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; Burley Stern, Kimberly Pecoraro (Tim), Brianna Stern, Jimmy Stern, Cara Sudbrock (Brandon), Shelby Pecoraro, Matthew Pecoraro, Finley Sudbrock, and Quinn Sudbrock. He is also remembered by his two brothers, Loyal Stern (Rose) and Roy Stern (Denise). His two sisters, Darlene Devoto (the late Butch) and Cleo Stern, and brother-in-law, Kenny Fredrick. He is further survived by a host of other family members and friends who will carry forward his memory.
Allen was preceded in death by his father, Loyal Stern; mother, Dorothy Stern; son, James Stern; and sister, Valerie Fredrick.
Allen J. Stern’s life was a compelling example of service, devotion to family, and professional excellence. His memory will be honored by those who knew him, and his contributions to his community and country will not be forgotten.
Allen will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in a private ceremony.
