The family of Bruce Malcolm Sandison is saddened to announce that, on June 15, 2026, Bruce died after a lengthy battle with ALS.
Born on June 16, 1950, to Gordon Sandison and Muriel Faunce (nee Lane), Bruce was the middle son of five boys. He was born and raised in Port Angeles, Washington, where he lettered in three sports, including the 1967 Rough Rider Olympic League championship winning football team.
After graduating from high school, Bruce went to West Point, which he was nominated to attend by Sen. Henry Scoop Jackson. At West Point, Bruce had an exemplary record (other than those times he had to march the area). He graduated on the Dean’s List and went into military intelligence.
Following graduation in 1972, Bruce served honorably at Fort Bliss in the 3rd armored cavalry regiment and then at Fort Lewis as an assistant G2 in the 9th infantry division and S2 of the 77th armored division. Bruce resigned from the military in 1977 and continued to serve in the Army reserves for an additional two years.
Bruce never stopped learning. He received an MBA from Cornell in 1979 and later pursued a Master's degree at Washington University in St. Louis with an emphasis in history and world religions.
Post-military, Bruce enjoyed a long professional career. He first worked at Scott Paper Company and then worked at Anheuser Busch until he retired as the Vice President of Wholesaler Systems Development. Even after retirement, Bruce continued to do outside consulting.
Bruce enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including studying, reading, and travel. His adventures took him to all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam, and at least 42 countries. He tried to master golf and, like many others before him, had a love-hate relationship with the sport. Bruce’s stronger sport was running, and he completed six marathons with a personal record of 3:04.
He also enjoyed genealogy and traced his ancestry back six generations on his dad’s side and nine generations on his mother’s side, back to the seventeenth century.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife Dana, daughter Heather (Drew) Heffner, son Iain Sandison (Jennifer Holloway), daughter Maggie Sandison (Lucas Cummings), grandchildren Duncan and Jane Heffner, along with his brothers Gordon (Jan), Colin (Pat Gallagher), Derek, and Trevor (Darcy Huffman) Sandison.
Interment will be on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. If you are attending, please meet at Sylvan Springs parking lot on the corner of Boundary Rd and Sheridan Rd near Jefferson Barracks by 2:20 p.m. The procession will head to Jefferson Barracks at 2:25 p.m.
Visitation will be at Newcomer Funeral Home, West County Chapel on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., with a service at 3:00 p.m. While conservative attire is recommended at Jefferson Barracks, Saturday will be a celebration of Bruce’s life—please feel free to leave your funeral garb at home.
