Bruce Anderson Sublette, 88, of O’Fallon, MO, joined his beloved wife, Nancy, in heaven on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
Bruce was born in Fresno, CA, on May 15, 1937, to the late Lawrence Anderson and Pauline Sublette Mazzei. He graduated from Fresno High School in 1954, and received his BA in Accounting from the University of Tampa in 1976.
After graduating from high school, Bruce enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, where he served his country honorably for five years as a radioman on submarines and destroyers. After leaving the U.S. Navy he became a professional firefighter, a private pilot, and a flight instructor.
A committed patriot, Bruce reenlisted in the U.S. military as a U.S. Army Warrant Officer to serve his country during the Vietnam war. He became a helicopter pilot and served a tour of duty in Vietnam, where he gallantly endured near daily combat. He flew Dust-Off medevac missions and was shot down three times. He was highly courageous and decorated, being awarded the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars for Valor in combat, the Distinguished Flying Cross for courage and skill while flying a combat mission, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, 34 Air Medals for over 800 hours of combat flight time, and the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat.
Upon returning home from Vietnam, Bruce was commissioned as an officer and served another nine years of active duty before being Honorably Discharged as a Captain for medical reasons due to his war injuries. He then continued to serve our country as a member of the civil service for an additional 23 years.
Bruce was a proud Mason, a lifelong Boy Scouts of America volunteer and leader, and a devoted servant of our Lord, Jesus Christ. In the last years of his life he was an active member of Connection Christian Church.
Bruce is survived by his children Lisa Sublette Payne (Paul), of Denver, CO; William E. Sublette (Suzanne), of Orlando, FL; Rebecca Sublette Witt (Edward), of Jacksonville, FL; Christopher R. Sublette (Amy), of Denver, CO; Mark Densing, of O’Fallon, MO; Michelle Chidster, of Troy, MO; Amanda Sublette, of Phoenix, AZ; and by 29 grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Nancy Sublette.
Viewing and a service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home on Saturday, March 7th, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery alongside his beloved wife, Nancy, also a U.S. Army veteran.
