Carl H. Bengtson, a man marked by charisma, kindness, and an unwavering generosity of spirit, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, in his home in Chesterfield, Missouri, surrounded by the love of his beloved wife, Susan. Born on July 15, 1948, in Evanston, Illinois, Carl’s life was a tapestry woven with dedication, achievement, and heartfelt connections that touched all who knew him.

Carl was a proud veteran who honorably served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His service was a testament to his courage and commitment to his country—qualities that would echo throughout his life. After his military service, Carl carved out a remarkable career at Brown Shoe Company, where he worked for over twenty years. Starting humbly selling shoes at a store, he rose through the ranks to become Senior Vice President of International Sales at Brown Shoe Company. Traveling the world for his work, Carl was a self-made man who took great pride in his accomplishments and the journey that defined him.

Beyond his professional life, Carl was truly a man who cherished people. Those close to him remember how he was always happy to see his wife, Susan, and how she felt that happiness radiate from him in every glance and smile. His home was a welcoming haven, where anyone could be invited with open arms, always met with generosity and warmth. Carl’s grandchildren were spoiled with love and freedom, always allowed to explore and grow in their own way under his watchful, caring eye.

He loved the finer things in life, a passion exemplified by his pride and joy: his red Corvette. Golf was another of his cherished pastimes, offering him joy and moments of peace. To know Carl was to encounter a deeply caring and supportive soul, one who would readily offer a helping hand to those in need and inspire kindness in return.

Carl is survived by his loving wife, Susan Bengtson; his children, Kristin (Bronson Rhoads) Bengtson and John (Jordan Marshall) Bengtson; his stepsons, Charlie (Melissa) Green and Chad (Meredith) Green; and his treasured granddaughters, Emma and Nora Green. He also leaves behind his sisters Linda (John) Soliz and Marty Eldred, along with many other beloved family members and friends who carry forward his spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Bengtson, and his sisters, Caroline Rhodes and Janet Leahy.

Carl H. Bengtson’s life was one of meaningful achievement, touching relationships, and quiet generosity. His legacy endures in the hearts of those who knew his warmth, his laughter, and his unwavering dedication to family and friends. His memory will forever be a beacon of love, kindness, and the simple joy found in giving to others.
