Carl Joseph Zankl, born on June 2, 1929 of East Saint Louis, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, in Saint Charles, Missouri. He lived a life rich in purpose, craftsmanship, and family, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Carl was a dedicated individual who acquired a certificate in Electrical Engineering and Quality Engineering. His profound knowledge enabled him to excel in various endeavors throughout his life. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, showcasing his commitment to his country during a vital time in history.
Professionally, Carl was known for his remarkable skills in fixing anything and everything. His passions extended into his leisure time, where he found joy in woodworking, fishing, playing golf, and making model airplanes and cars. These hobbies not only reflected his creativity but also his meticulous nature and willingness to share his talents with others.
Carl is survived by his loving children, Linda (Gary) Meyerkord, Larry Zankl, Deborah (Christopher) Morgan, and Dale (Kristina) Zankl. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Lisa (Timothy) Silver, Gregory Meyerkord, Kimberly Morgan, and Laura Morgan, and took immense pride in being a great-grandfather to Rachel Silver, Jack Silver, and Alice Meyerkord.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Audrey Zankl nee Aubuchon; his parents, Karl Zankl and Josephine Zankl nee Heil; his sisters, Josephine Krause and Freda Ledbetter; and his daughter-in-law, Anna Zankl.
Carl will be honored with a visitation on September 18, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, Missouri, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM. A graveside service will take place later that day at Ste. Philippine Cemetery & Mausoleum in St. Charles, Missouri, commencing at 12:30 PM.
Carl Joseph Zankl’s legacy of love, skill, and dedication will continue to inspire his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations go to All Saints Catholic School or American Cancer Society.
