On August 29, 2024, Chad Alan Cathers, age 55 of Largo Florida, departed his earthly life to be with his Lord in heaven. Chad lived a huge life with many friends and family.
Although not a foodie in the traditional sense, Chad took pride in preparing delicious meals for his family. From a Sunday football chili to a perfectly seasoned slow cooker roast and “dad’s mashed potatoes,” Chad served his family with love. He also loved to eat. . . “throwing down on” some Jack and the Box tacos or Imos pizza. Chad would make special trips to Six Flags just to get himself a smoked turkey leg! Seafood was another of his favorites. Chad often boasted about his record number of servings at “lobster night” on previous Carnival cruises. Whether on a Carnival Cruise or simply cruising and fishing on a boat in the Gulf, Chad enjoyed every moment he was able to share with family and friends.
Chad had a rewarding career with FedEx Ground. After completing his Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology from Capella University, he worked as a District Facility Maintenance Coordinator, a Facility Maintenance Manager (St. Pete) and a Maintenance Support Engineer.
As a younger man, Chad enjoyed boating, throwing darts and playing ice hockey. He traded in his ice skates and sweater for a St. Louis Blues (fan) jersey. You may have seen Chad at the Checkerdome or posted up at a large screen TV - enjoying the hits and shouting “Let’s Go Blues!” Although a die-hard St. Louis Blues fan, more recently, Chad adopted the Tampa Bay Lightning as his “home” team. When not on the ice, Chad mounted his Harley to soak up the Florida sunshine. One could hear Chad arriving on his motorcycle. . . not because of the pipes but because of his “jam” that he had turned up loud on his stereo. Chad’s big personality was evident through his music, engaging everyone around him. Bystanders old and young would join in singing “I wanna put on, my my my my my boogie shoes” as he rode around Gulf Boulevard and pulled into Crabby’s.
Chad is survived by his daughter Ashley Cathers (Andrew Stevens), his son Jacob Cathers (Kaylah Cathers), his mom Sherrill Bolmer (Barry Bolmer), his “gal” Chrissie Baker, his sister Cynthia Edwards and many other family and friends.
