Cheryl L. Maessen was born on December 6, 1961, in St. Louis, Missouri, and passed away on June 13, 2026, in Sullivan, Missouri. To know Cheryl was to know someone who brought light and laughter wherever she went. She had this incredible way of making anything fun and always focused on what would make the people around her happiest. If you were feeling down, Cheryl would do anything to make you laugh and lift your spirits.
She lived life with no fear and loved with everything she had. Loyal to the core, Cheryl would go above and beyond for the people she cared about. She was often the life of the party, not just because she loved a good gathering, but because she genuinely enjoyed complimenting and building up those around her. She wore her heart on her sleeve and poured 110 percent of her love into her family, especially her grandchildren. Cheryl was proud of them all and took joy in their every achievement and adventure.
Her hobbies reflected her warm nature. She had a real green thumb and loved taking care of her plants. She could often be found enjoying reality TV or quietly watching the birds outside. Feeding the birds, squirrels, and even the deer brought her simple, peaceful pleasure. These little moments connected Cheryl to life’s gentle rhythms.
Cheryl leaves behind her loving husband Dennis Strauser; her son Jason Lucas and his wife Kristina; her step-sons Heith Strauser and Brandon Strauser with his wife Megan. She was a proud grandmother to Blake, Alexandria, Jordan, Madison, Braylon, Braxton, McKinley, Griffon (Rachel), Brendon and great-grandmother to Clay, and Katie, who all hold a special place in her heart. Cheryl is also survived by her sisters Linda Gregorian, Sandra Mroczkowski, and Karen McKenney, as well as her brother Randy Clubb.
She was preceded in death by her parents Stewart Kenneth and Rose Mary Maessen, her grandson Dylan Jacob Piper, and siblings Brenda Loraine, Stewart Maessen, and James Clubb.
Friends and family will gather to remember Cheryl’s wonderful spirit on Thursday, June 18, 2026. Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, Missouri, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Anyone who knew Cheryl will remember her as a generous soul who gave freely of her love and laughter.
Cheryl’s memory is a reminder to cherish the simple joys, to be courageous in love, and to always find a reason to smile and lift others up. She touched many lives in ways big and small and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
