Chester E. Hanson, a beloved, father, and esteemed educator, passed away on March 31, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 93. Born on July 30, 1931, in Crosby-Ironton, Minnesota, Chester lived a life filled with purpose, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to his family and students.
Chester dedicated 30 years of his life as a college professor at Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri, where he shared his extensive knowledge of mathematics and computer science, having earned Master's Degrees in both fields from the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Evansville. Known for his generosity of spirit, Chester was not just an educator but also a mentor who went out of his way to support and empower his students, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.
His devotion extended beyond the classroom. Chester was a kind and nurturing husband and father, always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was a man who believed in the power of kindness and aimed to embody those values every day, showering his family with love and guidance.
Chester’s service to the nation during the Korean War reflected his sense of duty and commitment to the greater good. His experiences during this time shaped him into the compassionate person he was, instilling in him a deep respect for service and sacrifice.
Sports were a passion of Chester’s; he was an avid supporter of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs. When he wasn't cheering for his favorite teams, Chester could often be found fishing, a pastime that brought him joy and tranquility. He was also a competitive horseshoe thrower, and he particularly cherished the times spent practicing this sport with his father-in-law, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Chester is survived by his two devoted sons, Michael Ray (Tara) Hanson and Russell Scott (Debbie) Hanson. He leaves behind a loving legacy of seven grandchildren: Justin Hanson, Casey Hanson, Corey (Sam) Hanson, Taylor Hanson, Kimberly Carver, Christopher Hanson, and Rebecca Hanson. Each member of his family carries a piece of his spirit, a testament to the love and guidance he provided throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Lavene Hanson; father, Everett Martin, and mother, Dorothy Hanson, along with four siblings: Yvonne, Fritz, Roger, and Dennis. Each of them played a significant role in shaping the man Chester became and are undoubtedly awaiting him with open arms.
Chester E. Hanson will be remembered for his generosity, compassion, and warmth. Although he has departed from this earthly realm, his legacy of kindness and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, reminding us always of the profound impact one life can have on many.
