Clyde M. VerBryck, was born on December 14, 1929, lived a full life until he passed peacefully on April 7th, 2026, at the Cottages of Lake St Louis, Missouri at the age of 96 years old. He was a man who truly lived life to its fullest, he worked hard, but he believed in balance and made certain to enjoy life too! He had an appreciation for family, adventure, and cherished traditions over his lifetime!

Clyde genuinely loved his wife, Mary Therese whom he referred to as “his bride” who preceded him in death on April 20th, 2025, at the Cottages of Lake St Louis, Missouri. Clyde loved his wife dearly and they were inseparable. They did not have to have a million-dollar home or 2 new cars in the driveway as long as they were together. They chose a simple, frugal lifestyle so that they could ensure they could retire early to enjoy the next phase of their life! They enjoyed traveling but spent most of their time raising their 4 children: Matthew, Mark, Susan and Karen in Vestal, NY.

Clyde dedicated his career to IBM, until his retirement in 1987. His 39 years of retirement came with new adventures. He and his wife spent time enjoying the winter season in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Then spent the remaining 20+ years wintering in Boynton Beach, Florida before moving to the Wentzville, Mo area. They would travel between Florida by car from their home in Vestal, NY but eventually agreed to take a train, which transported their car too. They also enjoyed camping in their trailer until they determined it was time to give it up. That’s when the Chevrolet sedan broke down and they weren’t going to venture into another towing vehicle. They enjoyed various local events in the Binghamton vicinity including parks, the Speidi festival, balloon festival, the Cider Mill, and any free events like health fairs. While in South Florida, they especially enjoyed the ocean. Sometimes, they would drive to a park by the Atlantic Ocean so they could sit and watch the boats go by.

Clyde moved from his hometown of Johnson City, NY to Vestal NY where he and his bride settled and raised their 4 children. He also took advantage of family gatherings like the Swackhammer Reunion and enjoyed a jaunt to Cousin Lisa’s cottage. He was able during his career to travel throughout the United States while he and Mary Therese enjoyed trips to Hawaii and other European destinations. Clyde enjoyed the great outdoors! He especially enjoyed deer hunting. He would get excited about opening day of hunting season, which usually started during the Thanksgiving season. He also enjoyed camping. Initially he was tent camping until he invested in his first pop-up trailer and then a travel trailer. He especially enjoyed the Adirondacks. He even went on Boy Scout camp outs with Matt or Mark from time to time.

Prior to marrying his wife, Clyde became a veteran of the Korean War, Clyde’s service in the Army instilled in him a lifelong passion for guns and playing cards, interests that remained close to his heart throughout his life. He always enjoyed a cold beer on a sweltering day and a chance to play cards and gather with friends for some relaxation and conversation.

Clyde survives by his son Matthew VerBryck and daughter-in-law Carol of Delray Beach, FL; his daughter Susan VerBryck of Boynton Beach, FL; son Mark VerBryck and daughter-in-law Kim of Wentzville, MO. He was a proud grandfather to Alisha Slawniak and Pete, Ryan VerBryck and Samantha, Sean VerBryck and Missy, and Justin VerBryck and Elizabeth. His legacy continues in his great-grandchildren Greyson, Theodore, Poppy, and Brooks VerBryck, as well as the anticipated arrival of his future great-grandchild affectionately nicknamed "Nugget," due in July. Additionally, Clyde’s extended family includes nieces and nephews from both the VerBryck and Valla lineages, all of whom carry forward his memory and spirit.

Clyde was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Therese VerBryck and his daughter Karen VerBryck. In addition to his parents, Mark, and Lleta VerBryck; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert, and Judy VerBryck. Though deeply missed, their memories remain an enduring part of his story. Clyde VerBryck’s life was one marked by dedication to his beloved wife and a zest for all that life offered. His presence will be missed yet fondly remembered by all who knew him.
