After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Cynthia Murray, a dedicated educator and beloved family member, passed away on May 10, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on July 15, 1945, she devoted her life to teaching and nurturing the minds of her students in the Pattonville School District from 1984 to 2007. As an 8th grade English and Social Studies teacher, Cynthia found her true calling in education, relishing the opportunity to instill knowledge and inspire young minds. Her students were not just learners in her classroom; they became her second family, and she continued to impact their lives long after they left her classroom. In recognition of her commitment to education, she served as past President of the Pattonville PNEA, advocating for the needs and rights of her fellow educators.
Beyond her career, Cynthia was a woman of many talents and passions. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed painting, sewing, and crafting. Her creativity flourished in these hobbies, but her greatest joy came from her role as a grandmother. Cynthia loved her grandchildren, Max and Lydia, unconditionally, and cherished attending their extracurricular activities. Family was at the heart of Cynthia's life; She loved her children selflessly, her husband, Bill, was the light of her life. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, love, and cherished memories. She also held a special place in Bill's family and took great pride in being an active and loving part of their lives.
In her younger years, she and Bill traveled extensively, creating lasting memories that they would treasure forever. Known for her exceptional cooking and baking skills, Cynthia delighted her family with her culinary creations, further solidifying her role as the heart of her household.
Cynthia is survived by her loving husband, Bill Murray; daughter, Becky (Kris) Schneider; son, Brad (Kim) Murray; and grandchildren, Max Murray and Lydia Murray. She is also survived by her brother, Eugene (Judy) Covert, as well as niece, Stephanie, and beloved Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews on the Murray family side, along with a host of other family members and friends who will miss her dearly. She also enjoyed the company of her grand-pets.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Sydney Covert, and her mother, Helen Covert.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who cared for Cynthia at Siteman Cancer Center of Creve Coeur, Barnes Jewish St. Peters Hospital, and Barnes Jewish St. Louis Hospital.
