William Dale Gunnels, lovingly known as Dale, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on December 7, 1941, in Ava, Missouri, Dale was the son of Lloyd and Iona (Lethco) Gunnels.

Dale spent his early years in southwest Missouri and graduated from Central High School in Springfield in 1959. He pursued studies in information systems and went on to build a successful career in the emerging field of information technology. He began his professional journey with Zenith Electronics Corporation in 1968 and worked as a systems analyst and computer programmer. Over the years, Dale also served as an IT consultant for numerous companies, always bringing integrity, intelligence, and dedication to his work.

In 1968, Dale married the love of his life, Jean (Kentch) Gunnels, in Springfield, Missouri. The couple shared a devoted and loving marriage for 56 years. Together, they made their home in Springfield for 25 years before relocating to Saint Louis, Missouri in 1993.

Dale was a deeply caring and supportive husband, father, and friend. His son, Michael, born in 1973, brought immense joy to his life. Dale loved his family wholeheartedly and unconditionally. He was generous with his time and talents, always willing to lend a helping hand. In his retirement, Dale remained active in his community, where he was known for his kindness and helpful spirit.

Dale’s hobbies reflected his creative and curious nature. He was a talented wood craftsman, avid gardener, and stained-glass hobbyist. He also loved to travel, especially to places like Niagara Falls, Hawaii, and Alaska. His faith was central to his life, and he served faithfully in many roles at his church, including serving as a deacon.

Dale is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Jean Gunnels; his son, Michael Gunnels (Mark); his sister, Emma Woodcock; his brother-in-law, Robert Kentch (Tresa), as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Iona Gunnels, and his brother, Ivan Gunnels (Lucille).
