David "Dave" Lewis Backschies peacefully passed away on October 11, 2025, in St. Louis, MO after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of many.
Dave was born to Ronald and Ann Backschies on June 27, 1958, in Springfield, MA. He spent his young adulthood touring for bands and spent a few years in the Air Force. He eventually settled down and pursued a career in information technology. Over the last decade, his weekdays were spent at Vision Promotions, where he worked alongside close friends. On the weekends, he continued to run sound and lights for local performers, perfect his Fantasy Football roster, or assist his daughter in setting up a elite weekend campsites around various state parks.
Above all, Dave was a proud and devoted family man; his support for his family never wavered. He showed up, he cheered loudly, he encouraged endlessly, and he loved without condition. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Kari “Dani” (Jason) Lamphiere, and by the grandchildren who adored him and lovingly called him “Pop Pop”: Charlotte “Charli” Caruso, Margo Caruso, Zowie Lamphiere, Kinsley Lamphiere, and Emmett Caruso. He is also survived by his siblings: Kari (Tim) Placke and Denny Backschies; and nieces and nephews Nikki (Ryan) Berthold, Lauren (James) Neukirch, Jason (Rachel) Meyer, Ethan Backschies, Nolan Backschies, and Jentry Backschies.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 3, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at The Landhaus at New Melle Lakes, 300 Foristell Rd, New Melle, MO 63365. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a cancer-related charity of your choice, in honor of Dave’s brave fight and in support of others facing the same battle.
Dave will be remembered for his warm laugh, his easy conversation, and the way he made people feel seen and valued. He gave generously, listened deeply, and never hesitated to help a friend. He had a passion for music, a love for family, and a gift for turning moments into memories. As a phenomenal friend, father, brother, and grandfather - he will be deeply missed but always remembered.
