David Lee Haferkamp, affectionately known as Dave, departed this world on July 25, 2025, at the John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Born on January 6, 1940, in St. Charles, Missouri, Dave was a vibrant soul whose presence lit up the lives of those around him.
Dave was a man of many layers, characterized by his mischievous spirit and sharp, sarcastic wit. He possessed a dry sense of humor that left everyone laughing and often wondering what clever antics he might come up with next. The richness of his personality and the lightheartedness he spread created an atmosphere where stories about Dave became cherished memories shared by all. He was full of nonsense in the most delightful way, and his ornery sense of humor ensured that he was never far from the hearts of those who adored him.
Throughout his life, one of Dave's proudest achievements was his family. He was the biggest supporter of his beloved daughters, Leann (Travis) Nicholson and Dee-Dee (Kent) Haislip. His love for them was a guiding force in their lives, as well as for his cherished grandchildren: Amelia (Tim), Laura (Fiancé Jake), Sarah (Fiancé Luke), Gillian, and Aidan. Each moment spent with them was a treasure, and he found immense joy in watching them flourish. He also took great delight in being a great-grandfather to little Kayden, who brought an extra sparkle to his eyes. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Haferkamp.
Dave served honorably in the United States Air Force, a commitment that filled him with pride and instilled within him a strong sense of duty. A man with a heart for giving, he was faithful in his contributions to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. His active membership in the Dartball Hall of Fame, the Lion's Club, and the Pikers Club reflected his passion for community and camaraderie. He loved music and dancing, often losing himself in the rhythm alongside those he held dear. Dave was also an avid sports fan, enjoying to play bowling, softball, golf, and darts with his most cherished friends.
He is predeceased by his beloved son, Nick Haferkamp, who will be waiting for him to give him a big hug in the afterlife. He also joins the everlasting memories of his parents, Arlie and Verna Haferkamp, his brother, Dicky Haferkamp, and his sister, Sharon Graham.
In his final moments, Dave was peacefully surrounded by his loving family, a testament to the profound connections he built during his lifetime. His joyous spirit, warm laughter, and loving nature will forever echo in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him. As we remember Dave, we celebrate a life rich with love, laughter, and the stories that will continue to bring smiles even in his absence.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider a donation to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Dave's honor as it was one of his favorite charities to support.
