David G. Kneib

September 6, 1944 — April 28, 2024

David Kneib, 79, of St. Peters, MO, sadly passed away on April 28, 2024, in his home. He was born on September 6th, 1944, in St. Louis, MO to Ann and Elmer Kneib. After high school, Dave served in the US Air Force before starting his 39-year career as police officer in St. Louis County.

Dave knew from a young age that his future belonged in law enforcement. From flying helicopters to training new officers, he was passionate about everything he did serving his community. His compassion for those around him led him to truly excel as a detective for Crimes Against Persons.

More than anything, though, he loved his family. He was a man with a huge heart. Always the first to lend a hand, offer a ride, or fix anything that was broken. Dave knew how to help, even if all that was needed was a kind word, and it made him feel great any time he was able. One of his favorite pastimes was giving trouble to his family and friends. You knew Dave liked you if he was messing with you.

In 2013, Dave received a double-lung transplant. He was determined to give back in gratitude for the gift he was given. Dave spent countless hours volunteering with Mid America Transplant, Second Wind Lung Association, and Barnes Transplant Mentors. He served as a mentor for new transplant patients, and the joy he felt in being able to offer his guidance and empathy to these new patients was clear. Dave honored his gift in many ways, including now being an organ donor himself. He has had a lasting, profound impact on so many; it was a life well lived.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Karen, as well as his children, Ann (JW) Wright, Dawn Kneib, Rich Kneib, and Dean (Sharon) Kneib, his grandchildren, Rocco Kneib, Liam Wright, and Xander Wright, and his siblings, Elmer, “Gary,” (Donna) Kneib, and Kathleen (Justin) Berger. He is preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Ann and Victor Trejbal, and his father, Elmer Kneib.

Please join us in celebrating his life Thursday, May 2nd, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Dr. St. Peters, MO. Memorial service to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider registering as an organ donor and giving the gift of life.
