Listen to Obituary

David J. Meyer, affectionately known as "Dave," departed from this world peacefully on February 21, 2026, in Warrenton, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 13, 1956, in St Charles, Missouri, David had an illustrious career as a member of Local 527 Cement Masons for over 25 years—because why wouldn't he want to spend more than two decades slinging concrete?

Retirement was a whole new chapter for Dave; he and his wife, Theresa "Terri" Meyer, decided that the best way to kick back was by acquiring a farm, replete with cattle that were somehow trained to believe that candy was a viable food group. Every day was a new episode of 'The Pied Piper of Cattle,’ where they would follow him around, presumably wondering how to get their hooves on the sweets lurking in his pockets.

Who can forget that whimsical T-shirt he donned, featuring the Grinch with the slogan "ew people"? A true fashion statement that perfectly captured the essence of a man who preferred the company of cows over crowds. Yet, interestingly enough, despite being a man of few words and a notorious grumpy grandpa, Dave had more friends than you could shake a stick at—probably because he cared more about his family than anything else, which is quite impressive for a self-proclaimed hermit.

On the family front, Dave had a curious penchant for calling his daughter "baldy" and often mysteriously opted out of gatherings with her friends. Perhaps he believed the awkwardness would be just too much to bear? He delighted in time spent with his grandchildren, bravely driving them around the farm while they bounced about, sometimes even squeezing Laila onto the armrest when space was tight. Legendary snacks in the basement included peanuts and Sundrop soda, a winning combination for any aspiring kid.

His hobbies were as diverse as they were predictable. He enjoyed the quiet thrill of fishing, becoming one with nature while indulging in Ding Dongs and cans of soda during hunting expeditions—although “quiet” may have been a dubious goal given his propensity for shushing others. And let’s not forget his passion for mowing the grass, a chore he undertook even when it clearly didn’t require his attention. After all, what's life without obsessively manicuring one’s lawn?

As for his education, Dave managed to snag an Associate's Degree at John A. Logan Community College in HVAC—a skill set that probably helped him keep his cool while navigating life’s many challenges.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 47 years, Theresa; his loving children, Douglas (Raman) Meyer, Marcel "Alan" Boleware, Laura Beth (Ben) Hogan, and Daniel Meyer; his treasured grandchildren, Laila Meyer, Karter Meyer, Jai Meyer, Xander Hogan, and Skylar Meyer; as well as his sisters, Susan (Tom) Shine and Martha (Jeff) Hessler, and his brother, Gary (Katie) Meyer. Oh, and let’s not overlook the many other family members and friends who doubtlessly have stories of their own about living in Dave’s gravitational pull.

David is also survived by the cherished memory of his parents, Robert and Frances Meyer, who did their best to raise a man who turned out to be wonderfully complex—if not entirely predictable.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 8, 2026, at The Crossings Church in O'Fallon, Missouri, because Dave would probably have insisted on a gathering where people could share awkward glances and reminisce about the good ol' days of wrestling cows for candy and complaining about just about everything—except his family, of course.
