Delbert A Zerjav

January 18, 1942 — September 26, 2024

Delbert A. Zerjav, affectionately known as "Del", was born on January 18, 1942, in Saint Charles, Missouri. He passed away peacefully in his home on September 26, 2024, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. Del was a deeply generous and selfless individual whose dedication to family and his parish left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him.

Del worked as a project manager and estimator for various builders in St. Louis, completing his professional journey with McBride and Son. His attention to detail and strong work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients alike.

Del was not only a devoted professional but also a beloved family man. He cherished precious memories of taking scenic routes with his children, building a clubhouse for them alongside his father, and sharing stories of his childhood adventures. Many weekends were filled with camping trips with his son, working on Pinewood Derby cars, and assisting with the Eagle Scout program. Family road trips across the country were a testament to his commitment to creating lasting memories with his loved ones.

He demonstrated his commitment to faith and community service through the Men’s Club, Care Service, and Knights of Columbus. His hobbies included gardening, reading historical literature, and spending precious time playing with his grandson, Benjamin, who was the light of his life. Del also enjoyed cycling in his younger years and found solace and clarity in moments spent gardening and mowing grass.

Among his proudest accomplishments, Del was awarded the Scouting Bronze Pelican for his dedicated service, and he played a significant role in overseeing the construction and expansion of the Care Service. The Men's Club received accolades for the Best Lenten Fish Fry in St. Charles for four consecutive years. Watching his children graduate from college was a milestone that brought him immense joy and pride.

Del is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Susan Zerjav; daughter, Elizabeth (Javier) Torres; son, Daniel (Rebecca) Zerjav; grandson, Benjamin Torres; sister Diane Solomon; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will all miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Zerjav; mother, Carol Zerjav (nee Schwendeman); brother, Daryl Zerjav; and brother-in-law Fred Solomon.

His legacy is one of compassion, humor, and dedicated service, characterized by a strong belief in treating others as one wishes to be treated. Del's impact on his family and community will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Del's Life will be held on October 1, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, MO. A second visitation will take place on October 2, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Sts. Joachim & Ann Catholic Church, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at Ste. Philippine Cemetery in Saint Charles, MO, followed by a luncheon at the Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Service.
