Donald Keith Hargrove, affectionately known to many as Big Daddy, Hoss, or simply Keith, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, in St Charles, Missouri, after an extended illness. Born on July 6, 1956, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Keith’s life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his passions.
From a young age, Keith knew the path he wanted to take. Straight out of high school, he attended the Fire Academy, embarking on a career that would define much of his life. Beginning in 1977, he served the St Peters community with pride and commitment, working as both an Engineer and Building Inspector until his retirement in 2017. His career as a firefighter was not simply a job but a profound calling—one that he embraced with humor, love, and thoughtfulness. He was deeply proud of this work and the invaluable service he provided over four decades, culminating in a heartfelt farewell to the fire service he so dearly loved.
Keith’s personality was a beautiful tapestry of funny, loving, and sweet gestures that left an indelible impression on all who knew him. His devotion to those closest to him was unmistakable. He was a man who treasured his family above all else, and his marriage to Judy Hargrove, his beloved wife of 36 years, was a cornerstone of his life and happiness. Together, they built a loving home filled with warmth and lasting memories.
He is survived by his cherished daughters, Brandy (Aaron) Jones and Sherrill (Liz) McQuaid, who carry forward the values and love he instilled in them. His grandchildren, Alex Jones (Adrianne Hammond) and Kylee McQuaid, brought immense joy to his later years. Not to be forgotten is his faithful sidekick Rosie, his beloved dog and best friend, whose companionship was a treasured comfort to Keith.
Throughout his life, Keith found great joy in the simple yet meaningful pleasures. He was an avid hunter, an enthusiastic NASCAR fan, and a devoted follower of football and golf. A true foodie at heart, he delighted in discovering new restaurants and savoring diverse flavors, often planning road trips around the culinary experiences he sought to enjoy. Family reunions in Bennett Springs and trips to Sturgis on his motorcycle were times filled with laughter and togetherness, moments that echo in the memories of those who loved him.
Though we mourn the loss of Keith’s physical presence, we remember and celebrate his journey marked by love, courage, and a spirit that touched many lives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Don and Joyce Jean Hargrove, and his brother, Bryan Hargrove, who no doubt welcomed him with open arms.
Friends and family are invited to honor Keith’s memory at the Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, Missouri, where a visitation will be held on April 23, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 PM, concluding at 7:00 PM. This gathering will offer a special opportunity to share stories, offer comfort, and celebrate the remarkable life of a man who gave so much to those around him.
Donald Keith Hargrove’s legacy of love, dedication, and joy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished.
