Donn Gruensfelder, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, left this world unexpectedly on November 13, 2025, at the age of 62. Born on September 11, 1963, in Fort Lewis, Washington, Donn embodied kindness and warmth throughout his life, leaving behind a legacy of love that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Family was the cornerstone of Donn’s life. He was a devoted husband to Cindy, with whom he shared 35 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, adventure, and a foundation that anchored their family. Donn cherished every moment with his children—Danielle Schroeder (Dan), Jacob (Paulina), Joshua, Hannah, and Sarah—who brought him immense pride and joy. Becoming a grandfather deepened that joy even more; he adored his granddaughters Ana, Elaina, and Kate Schroeder, delighting in every smile and moment spent with them.
He was the loving son of his father Al and stepmother Ellie, as well as his mother Donna Hoffmann and her late husband, Bill. Donn was a caring brother to Hugo, sister Gretchen Benhardt, and step-sister Robyn Armer. His generous heart and steady presence will be missed profoundly by all who were lucky enough to call him family.
Donn dedicated over 35 years of his career to Boeing, where he not only honed his engineering expertise but also forged lifelong friendships. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech—a testament to his intellect, drive, and spirit of curiosity. Those who worked alongside him admired his welcoming nature and his gift for connecting with people. “He never met a stranger,” his loved ones often said, reflecting his genuine interest in every person he encountered.
Outside of work, Donn found some of his greatest happiness in simple, joyful moments with those he loved. He treasured time spent on the water—boating, wake surfing, and soaking in the sun—and enjoyed summers by the pool, surrounded by the laughter of family. He also enjoyed evenings spent listening to live music, savoring the beauty found in everyday experiences.
In earlier years, Donn and Cindy shared adventures that defined their partnership, including scuba diving and flying together—Donn proudly earned his private pilot’s license. These experiences strengthened their bond and created stories that their family will carry forward for a lifetime.
Above all, Donn lived with a generous spirit and an open heart. As a father, he instilled values of kindness, curiosity, and service. As a friend, he offered his time, his warmth, and his willingness to help anyone in need. His presence touched countless lives, and his legacy is one of love, compassion, and genuine connection.
As we celebrate the life of Donn Gruensfelder, we remember the joy he brought into the world, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of his family, his friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed—and forever remembered.
At the family’s request, the service will be private. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Donn may consider a donation to Tunnels to Towers, an organization close to his heart.
