Eddie M. Young Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on March 6, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on December 21, 1942, in Mississippi, just north of New Orleans, Eddie's life was characterized by his adventurous spirit, remarkable talents, and profound love for his family.
Eddie's upbringing was profoundly influenced by his father's distinguished Army career, which enabled him to experience diverse cultures while living in places such as Hawaii, Japan, and Brooklyn, New York. His father's profession as a mechanical engineer and his older brother's success as a structural engineer laid a foundation for Eddie's own journey into engineering. Inspired by overheard conversations about electrical engineering, he bravely pursued his education despite being advised otherwise by a high school counselor, a decision that ultimately shaped a lifelong career.
Eddie dedicated many years of his life to McDonnell Douglas/Boeing, where he played a vital role in Flight Controls, contributing to the safety of countless pilots. His impressive career began with the F-4 aircraft and included supporting the Blue Angels. He was involved in numerous significant projects, including accident investigations and the prestigious Paris Air Show, but his true pride was in the F-15, which he had the exhilarating opportunity to fly from St. Louis to California.
Beyond his professional achievements, Eddie cherished his family. He married his beloved wife, Paula Young (nee Evans), and together they embarked on a journey filled with joy and adventure for thirty wonderful years. Eddie and his first wife Elaine had two sons, David Matin Young and Matthew (Theresa) Turner Young. Ed was a devoted father, and he engaged in their lives by helping them build Soap Box Derby cars and assisting with various household projects. His love extended also to his step-daughter, Jessica Lucas, and he formed cherished connections with his grandchildren, Chelsey Young (Michael Diehl), Steven (Jennifer) Young, Matthew (Alexandra) Young Jr., Olivia Lucas, and Camille Lucas, as well as his great-grandchildren, Aife Young, Sakari Young, and Adrian Young. His brother, Hugh (Betty) Young, and sister, Nancy Brooks, along with a host of other family members and friends, will also feel the void left by his passing.
Eddie's love of life was evident through his many interests and talents. He enjoyed flying his Navion, sailing, and taking on various projects, such as building a boat from scratch and designing his own sport coat. He created memorable experiences for his family, including building a "Princess Castle" for his step-granddaughters. Even in the kitchen, Eddie showcased his creativity by entering a Cajun cooking contest.
Eddie's loving nature and zest for life were matched only by his desire to uplift those around him. He expressed a desire for his memorial service to reflect the joyous nature of life, inspired by the traditions of jazz funerals from his childhood home. He hoped to transition from sorrow to celebration, stating simply that he did not want anyone to be sad.
He is preceded in death by his father, Eddie Young, Sr., and his mother, Dorothy Young (nee Harper). As we remember Eddie M. Young Jr., let us honor his memory by celebrating the joyous moments he cultivated in life and the enduring impact he leaves on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held on March 9, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, MO, for all who wish to pay their respects and celebrate the vibrant life of Eddie.
