Edna Elizabeth Krisch Lanahan, age 88, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025.
Edna was born on January 22, 1937, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Charles and Flora (Spahn) Krisch. On February 13, 1960, she married the love of her life, David Lanahan. Together they moved to St. Louis, where they built a full and joyful life centered on family, faith, service, and adventure. Edna and David shared 65 years of marriage.
She was a devoted wife and mother, survived by her husband, David Lanahan; her children Kevin Lanahan (Cathy), Elizabeth DeVries (Steve), and Susan Lanahan (Johnny Chittakhone); and her cherished grandchildren Jacob Crider (Anamaria), Michael Lanahan (Maria), Sean Crider (Sara), Brian Crider, Makenzie Chittakhone, and Delanie Chittakhone. She was a proud great-grandmother to Leo Lanahan, Mason Crider, Eli Lanahan, Audrey Crider, and Isaiah Lanahan.
Edna is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews: Chris Brown, Matt Brown, Nick Laflamme, Betsy Laflamme, Anne Laflamme, Art La Flamme, Jessica Brown, and Julia Brown Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Krisch and Flora Spahn Krisch; her sisters Ann Brown and Cece Brown; and her nephew Nick Brown.
Edna was both a homemaker and a medical technologist, bringing care, intelligence, and dedication to everything she did. She was an avid world traveler, visiting all seven continents and more than eighty countries. A passionate volksmarcher, Edna completed 10K walks in all 50 states, 51 capitals, nine Canadian provinces, and numerous locations throughout Europe and Africa—always with determination and joy.
Her generosity of spirit extended through years of volunteer service with Wings of Hope, local school libraries, and food pantries. Edna was known for her warmth, curiosity, and quiet strength—and for making what many claimed was the best fruitcake in the world. Even people who insisted they didn’t like fruitcake liked hers.
Edna Lanahan lived a life marked by love, service, adventure, and deep devotion to family. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
