Edward “Skip” Cissell, went home to be with God on September 28, 2024, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family in his home. Born on April 11, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri, Skip’s legacy resonates in the values he instilled, a testament to his unwavering love and support as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Skip is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathy (Andrews), His son Bryan (Donalyn) Cissell; his daughter Becky (Steve Brauer) Cissell; his cherished granddaughters, Maria and Makayla Cissell, his sisters, Marianne Gooris and Carolyn (Richard) Larson; as well as his beloved nieces, nephews; sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Elmer J. Cissell and Mary (Cissell) Birch, whose spirits he carried with him throughout his life.
Professionally, Skip was involved in the automotive industry for over 55 years. From managing several filling stations, enjoying racing, to owning his own automotive repair shop CARS (Cissell’s Automotive Repair Shop), to working as a mechanic and service advisor for several dealerships in the St. Louis area.
Skip’s passion was in aviation, and he harbored an extraordinary passion for flight. He earned his private pilot’s license in 1978 and delighted in soaring through the skies in Cessna single engine planes. He was also involved in EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) and loved attending the annual Oshkosh Airshows. His final trip included visiting the Air Force Armament Museum in Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. He also enjoyed reading, fishing, and watching his favorite movie, “Top Gun.”
As we gather to celebrate Skip’s remarkable life, friends and family are invited to share in honoring his memory at a Celebration of Life service on October 19, 2024, at Newcomer Funeral Home in Chesterfield, Missouri. We will forever treasure the footprints he has left on our hearts and the indelible mark he made in our lives.
For the memorial service - Casual attire is appropriate. Skip wore many hats in his lifetime. It is optional, but wearing of your favorite baseball cap is welcomed to honor Skip’s life.
