Edward George Malter, known affectionately as Ed or Eddie by his friends and family, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, in Lake St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 78. Born on September 1, 1946 in Columbia, Missouri, Ed was a man whose humor and generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.
Ed’s life was a testament to his dedication—to his family, his work, and his passions. As a proud civil engineer, he devoted many years to a career focused on ensuring communities across the country had clean water systems. In his final professional chapter at the City of Springfield, Ed not only made a lasting impact through his work but also formed meaningful, lifelong friendships.
Ed had a wandering spirit, but his heart felt most at home in Florida, where he settled during retirement. He treasured his time there, especially the peaceful moments spent fishing.
Ed found his greatest joy in time spent with his loved ones. He is survived by his children Kristine Clark and her husband, Nathan; and Jonathan Malter and his wife Madison; and his beloved grandchildren, Eleanor and Bennett Clark. His siblings—Richard and Karen Malter, Theresa and Jim Britt, and Wayne and Lynn Malter—will remember him for his kind heart and easy laughter.
We remember Ed for the life he lived with a smile and steadfast pursuit of his dreams.
