Elmer Orville Mincher, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, in O'Fallon, Missouri, at the age of 96. Born on February 20, 1929, in Steelville, Missouri, Elmer's life was a testament to love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his family.
After graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Washington University, Elmer built a distinguished career, working 33 years at Gaylord Container before retiring. His work ethic and quiet determination were hallmarks of his character, embodying his belief in the value of hard work throughout his life.
In addition to his career, Elmer served honorably in the United States Army as a Sergeant Major. His military service was a source of pride, and the discipline he cultivated during those years shaped him into the loving husband and father that he would become.
Elmer's greatest pride and joy came from his loving marriage of 67 years to his beloved wife, Betty Mincher. In Elmer's eyes, the sun rose and set with his love for Betty, and they spent many years traveling coast to coast together, sharing adventures and creating a lifetime of memories. Whether it was sitting close on the couch, enjoying the quiet warmth of their companionship, or going out on their speedboat at Lake of the Ozarks, they exemplified a bond that was deep and abiding.
Elmer's passions extended beyond his family. He found immense joy in hunting and fishing, and he loved to read. He was also an avid craftsman, having built his own four-story home and dedicated many hours to building seawalls on his cherished farm where he lived for ten years. His adventurous spirit was marked by thrilling afternoons racing his craft speedboat and perfecting his waterskiing skills.
Elmer's personality was as warm as his pursuits; he was a quiet and loving man whose gentle presence created a nurturing environment for his family. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Sandra (Jeff) Luedke and Linda Sherman, who carry forward his legacy of love. His grandchildren—Shane Sherman, Michelle (Doug) Burgess, Stacy Sherman, and Melissa (Brendan) Gilbert—held a special place in his heart, and he delighted in the joy of watching them grow. His great-grandchildren—Kyle Cooper, Kole Cooper, Seara Sherman, Landon Gilbert, Samantha Sherman, Ben Gilbert, Brady Burgess, and Lucy Burgess—were the apple of his eye, representing the culmination of a life well-lived and a family deeply loved.
Elmer was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty, whose memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of all who knew them together. He was also preceded by his parents, Ray and Gulenia Mincher, and his siblings, John (Opal) Mincher and Pauline Mincher. They too will be remembered with fondness as part of the fabric of his life.
As his family and friends gather to celebrate his remarkable life, they will remember Elmer Orville Mincher as a devoted husband, a proud father, a doting grandfather, and a great-grandfather, whose loving spirit and quiet strength will continue to inspire, even in his absence. His legacy of love and family will surely live on through the generations.
