Etta M. Janes, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and beloved member of her community, passed away on May 25, 2026. Born on July 11, 1940, Etta lived a life marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to those around her.
A graduate of Dixie High School in Arkansas, Etta proudly earned her diploma while actively participating in both basketball and softball throughout her high school years. Her competitive spirit on the field was a precursor to the strength of character she demonstrated throughout her life.
Etta was known for her sassy and loving personality. She had a generous heart and would do anything for others. Among her many roles within the family, she was the go-to babysitter for all of her grandchildren and numerous other families, a testament to the special bond she shared with them. Her home was a gathering place full of warmth, where she delighted in cooking meals for anyone who walked through her door.
She cherished the outdoors, passionately enjoying camping and fishing, especially alongside her beloved husband, Jerry Janes, with whom she shared 66 wonderful years of marriage—an achievement that stood as one of her proudest accomplishments. Despite her love for nature, she was notably petrified of snakes. Additionally, she had a keen eye for a good bargain and relished hunting for treasures at garage sales.
Etta's family was central to her life. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Janes; two sons, Timothy Janes and his wife Sonia, and Trent Janes with his wife Erin; seven siblings, Mary, Beatrice, Reba, Max, Tabbie, Cletus, and Lanny; as well as a host of other family members and friends who cherished her deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Hale and R.B. Hale; two sons, Terry Janes and Jeffrey Janes; and six siblings, Rodney, Calvin, Rose, Peggy, Glenda, and Mona.
A memorial service to honor Etta’s life will be held on May 28, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gateway Church, located at 250 Salt Lick Rd, St Peters, Missouri 63376. A visitation will take place on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, Saint Peters, Missouri 63376. A private family burial will take place after. Through this service, family, friends, and all who knew her will gather to celebrate a remarkable woman whose legacy of kindness, loyalty, and family devotion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her.
