Eva Lee Cates, born on December 17, 1931, in Center Township, Missouri, passed away peacefully in the company of her family on February 15, 2026, at her apartment in Spencer Place Assisted Living in St. Peters, Missouri. In her 94 years, Eva Lee touched the lives of many with her vibrant spirit, undeniable humor, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
A bright light in the lives of those fortunate enough to know her, Eva Lee was blessed with a good sense of humor that effortlessly drew people in. She was social and outgoing, thriving in gatherings and consistently seeking out opportunities to meet new friends. Her warmth and kindness made her an integral part of her community, where she actively engaged with others.
Family was of utmost importance to Eva Lee. She dedicated herself to being involved in her grandchildren’s lives, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime. Her legacy will be honored by her children: Rick Cates, Tony Cates, and Lisa Bogacz, as well as her beloved grandchildren: Cristy Cates, Samantha Cates, Jessica Cates, Sheyenne Bogacz, Sabra (Justin) Cerrone, Shelley Zink, and Darren Dodson. She delighted in the company of her nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, finding endless joy in their laughter and milestones.
Eva Lee was also a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs, where she found purpose and community. She parlayed her creativity into hobbies such as sewing and cooking, often showcasing her talents to bring family together during the holidays and other special occasions. These celebrations were filled with love, laughter, and an abundance of delicious food, eagerly prepared by Eva Lee herself.
Eva Lee’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of many, but her spirit will undoubtedly live on in the countless lives she has impacted through her love and generosity. She is predeceased by her husband Kenneth Dale Cates, as well as her father, Virgil Augustus Rush, and her mother, Elizabeth M. Rush. She is also reunited in spirit with her siblings, V.A. Rush, Lora Rogers, and Gloria Williams, along with her daughter-in-law Pam Cates.
Eva Lee Cates will be remembered as a remarkable woman whose life was richly woven with love, laughter, and community spirit. Her memory will be cherished, forever inspiring her family and loved ones to continue sharing the warmth she embodied every day.
Services will be private. Eva Lee will be laid to rest next to her husband in Spring Branch Cemetery, Avery, Missouri.
