Frances Ann Groves, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, great-grandmother, and woman of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of a life well lived.

Born on January 28, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri, Frances grew up in Riverview Gardens and spent many years making a beautiful home and raising her family in Florissant. Throughout her life, she was known for her strong spirit, competitive nature, generous heart, and deep love for her family and faith.

An outstanding athlete from an early age, Frances was named “Best Girl Athlete” at Riverview High School, where she and her twin sister, Mary Lou, dominated multiple sports. She continued her education at Harris Teachers College, but after meeting the love of her life, George (Doug), she soon embraced her greatest calling: building a family and a home filled with love.

Frances was the loving wife of George for 34 years. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith, and lasting memories. As a mother of five, Frances managed a beautiful home while also working at various jobs, including a preschool, bakery, and deli. No matter how busy life became, she always prioritized caring for others and making her home a welcoming place for family, friends, and neighbors. The family enjoyed time together on road trips, including visiting George’s family in Cape Girardeau, or later, simply by the pool in the backyard.

Her love of sports never faded. Frances enjoyed tennis, volleyball, bowling, and playing on her church softball team alongside her daughters. She continued playing pickleball well into her 80s, demonstrating the energy, determination, and competitive spirit that had defined her since childhood.

Frances also had a special gift for gardening and took tremendous pride in her yard, which was often admired as one of the most beautiful on the block. Her award-winning yard reflected the same care, dedication, and attention to detail she brought to every part of her life.

Above all, faith was the foundation of her life, and she remained devoted to Salem Baptist Church worship through song in the church choir on Sundays and in Christmas Cantatas. Her faith guided the way she loved, served, and cared for those around her, leaving a lasting example for generations of her family.

Frances leaves behind five beloved children and their spouses: Walter (Sandy), Kimberly (Tim), Douglas (Janette), Paula (Roger), and Julia (Mike). She was a proud grandma to Steven, Ashley, Carrie, Allison, Dylan, Madison, Audrey, Jax, and Max, and a loving great-grandma to Brenin, Lucas, Jackson, and Gregory. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, along with many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.

She now joins George, her brothers and sisters, dear friend Al, and numerous loved ones in Heaven. Among those welcoming her home is her twin sister and lifelong best friend, Mary Lou, with whom she shared an extraordinary bond that began at birth and will never be forgotten.

Frances will be remembered for her competitive spirit, her beautiful home and garden, her devotion to her family, and, most importantly, her steadfast faith in God. Her legacy lives on in the family she raised, the lives she touched, and the countless memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that her faith has carried her to her final home.

We will be honoring Fran’s life on October 22rd with visitation from 5pm to 7pm, and service on October 23rd at 9am. Burial service will be at Jefferson Barracks at 11am.
