Frances Mary Shaff

Frances Mary Shaff, a beloved wife, devoted mother, teacher, and cherished friend, passed away on July 24, 2026, at the age of 95. Frances was born on September 22, 1930, and graced the world with her intelligence, kindness, and unwavering commitment to her faith and family throughout her long and fruitful life.

Frances’s legacy lives on in her surviving children: her daughters, Francie Null and Mary Farrell, and her son, Vic Shaff. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Victor Shaff, whom she often said was the best decision of her life. Frances and Victor’s partnership and devotion set an enduring example for all who knew them.

Education played a valued role in Frances's life. She attended Tottenville High School and continued her academic journey at Hunter College, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business before pursuing her teaching credentials. With passion and patience, Frances dedicated many years to teaching kindergarten and first grade. Her care and diligence touched the lives of countless children and families. Frances’s patient guidance and steadfast devotion to her students left a lasting mark, instilling not only knowledge but also compassion and values that their families cherish to this day.

Outside of her career, Frances cultivated a multitude of interests. She relished traveling with her beloved Victor and their close circle of walking friends. Creativity flowed into every aspect of her life—she was an accomplished seamstress, a painter, and a crafter, finding joy in making and gifting handmade treasures. Home was the center of her heart. Holidays sparkled with Frances’s unique touches, where she created lasting memories for her children, from making crafts together to sharing the art of giving and prayer. Her love for cooking brought her family together around the table, each meal a testament to her warmth and care.

Faith was a cornerstone of Frances’s identity. Deeply rooted in her Catholic beliefs, she remained active in church activities and modeled for her family the importance of prayer and service to others. Her strength, thoughtful nature, strong opinions, and enduring love for her country were evident to all who knew her.

Frances was proudest of her marriage, her teaching career, and, above all, her children and grandchildren. She approached each day with intention—nurturing her family, supporting loved ones, and investing in the growth of her students. Those who had the privilege of knowing Frances were continually inspired by her intelligence, thoughtfulness, and generosity of spirit.

Friends and family are invited to honor Frances’s life at the following services: Visitation will be held on August 11, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 403 N Main St, O’Fallon, MO. A Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the same location, celebrating Frances’s faith and the vibrant life she lived. The Graveside Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, MO.
