Francis Micallef, affectionately known as Frank, was born on October 4, 1934, in Sliema, Malta. He passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2025, in O'Fallon, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, love, and camaraderie that will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
Frank's journey through life was defined by his unwavering dedication to his family and his industrious spirit. He began his career as a pipe fitter at a dock yard in Malta before venturing to England, where he served as a merchant marine. His quest for opportunity led him to the United States, where he made significant contributions as a pipe fitter for Ford Motor Company in Michigan, and later for NASA in New Orleans. Ultimately, Frank returned to Ford Motor Company in St. Louis, where he enjoyed a fulfilling retirement, reflecting the skill and passion he brought to every role he embraced. Following his retirement he and his wife relocated to Tampa, Florida, where they enjoyed retirement with family and friends for 12 years.
Throughout his life, Frank was a man of remarkable character. He was renowned for being a hard worker, always ready to lend a hand around the house and extend his support to those in need. Frank was a generous, humble, and good man, admired not only for his abilities but also for the kindness he showed to everyone he encountered. His great spirit drew many friends, and he nurtured these connections with warmth and sincerity.
Frank's interests painted a picture of a well-rounded man who loved life. He delighted in spending time with his family and friends, reveling in the joys of togetherness. An avid soccer fan, he proudly supported Chelsea FC and spent cherished moments coaching youth soccer during his time in Michigan, earning respect and affection from those he guided. Whether it was hanging out with friends, playing pool, or pursuing a passion for cars, Frank lived his life to the fullest, deeply committed to the people who brought him joy.
As a devoted husband, Frank is survived by his loving wife, Doris Micallef. He was a proud father to his daughters, Josanna (Jim) Landwehr and Samantha (John) Whalen, and his sons, Gino (Angela) Micallef and Julian Micallef. His heart swelled with pride for his grandchildren—Kyle Landwehr, Marisa (Gunnar) James, Drake Sliepen, Alec (Ashlyn) Sliepen, and Kayla Micallef—and for his great-granddaughter, Andersyn James, all of whom brought him immeasurable joy.
In addition to his immediate family, Frank is survived by his brothers, Paul (the late Stella) Micallef, Alfred (Josephine), Joe, and Adrian (Miriam) Micallef, and his sister-in-law, Margaret (Joe) Caruana and Miriam (Richard) Cassar. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of love and fond memories that will live on through those who adored him.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Carmel and Dolores Micallef; his parents-in-law, Paul and Polly Arnaud; his brothers, Willie (Lucia) Micallef, Vincent (Doreen survives) Micallef; and his sister-in-law, Carmen (Rony) Attard; brothers-in-law, Paul (Ruby) Arnaud and Joe (Annette survives) Arnaud. Each of these relationships added depth to his life story, and their memories will continue to resonate within his family.
Frank Micallef’s life will be celebrated during a memorial gathering on Thursday, May 29, 2025, starting at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM, both at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located at 7701 Town Square Avenue, Dardenne Prairie, Missouri.
In the hearts of his family and friends, Frank's memory will be etched forever. He was, above all else, most proud of his beloved family, and this immeasurable love serves as a testament to a life well-lived. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love he so freely gave.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Frank's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
