Garland Satterfield, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in St. Peters, Missouri. Born on August 3, 1934, in Pollard, Arkansas, Garland lived a life filled with hard work, love, and a passion for storytelling that left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
Garland dedicated 30 years of his professional life to McDonnell Douglas (Boeing), where he proudly retired as a Paint Shop Supervisor. His commitment and diligence were evident in his work ethic, exemplifying the values he cherished deeply. He also served his country with honor in the United States Army, embracing the principles of duty and service that would shape his character throughout his life.
A founding member of Grace Baptist Church, Garland played an active role in his faith community, serving in various capacities over the years. His leadership and devotion were instrumental in fostering a welcoming and loving environment for many which will be remembered fondly by those whose lives he touched.
Garland was known for his good sense of humor and was a wonderful storyteller who could captivate any audience. He possessed an undeniable love for tools, often spending hours working on various projects, from restoring historic cars to more everyday repairs. He also gave of his time generously, volunteering for Righteous Rides, a mission organization that provides vehicles for missionaries. His interests didn't just lie in machinery; he cherished the adventures he created with his wife and friends, traveling to new places and making lasting memories along the way.
Garland is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Satterfield; daughter Kathy (Brian) O'Grady; son Michael (Marcia) Satterfield; grandsons Corey (Kaylee) O'Grady and Mitch (Emily) Satterfield; granddaughter Molly Satterfield; great-granddaughters Lyla, Eloise, and Charlotte O'Grady; great-grandson Thomas Satterfield; brother Bill (the late Myrtle) Satterfield; and sister Ethel Grider. Each of them carries a piece of his legacy in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Claud Edward Satterfield; mother, Fannie Lottie Satterfield; sisters Wilma Lemons and Dean McGahan; and brothers Roy and Donald Satterfield. Their memory remains intertwined with his, as they had a profound influence on the loving man he became.
The community is invited to honor Garland's life and legacy. Visitation will take place at Grace Baptist Church, located at 3601 Ehlmann Road, St. Charles, Missouri, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service starting at 11:00 AM. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at St. Charles Memorial Gardens, 3950 West Clay Street, Saint Charles, Missouri.
Garland Satterfield’s life was a testament to dedication, love, and the celebration of family and faith. He will be profoundly missed, yet his stories and spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
