Gary R. Mundy, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, and steadfast member of the St. Louis Painters District Council, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, in Dardenne Prairie, Missouri. Born on March 1, 1944, in Dellwood, Missouri, Gary lived a life marked by dedication, love, and a joyful spirit that touched all who knew him.
A proud graduate of Riverview Gardens High School, Gary embarked on a career that spanned more than four decades with the St. Louis Painters District Council. His 42 years of hard work and commitment stand as a testament to his strong work ethic and unwavering loyalty. Those who worked alongside him knew Gary as a consummate professional and a man who approached each day with a steady hand and a kind heart.
Gary’s life extended far beyond his career. He was a fun guy who loved to enjoy the simpler pleasures—especially in his youth when he found joy in boating and camping under the open skies. His enthusiasm for life was infectious, and his spirit remained lively throughout his years. A dedicated fan of Cardinals baseball, Gary could often be found watching the games, sharing in the excitement as if he were right there in the stands.
More than anything, Gary treasured his family. He was a good dad who delighted in the presence of his children and grandchildren, always proud of their achievements and filled with love for each of them. He is survived by his sons, Gary Robert Mundy, Jr. and Matt Douglas Mundy, married to Jill; his grandchildren Olivia Pree, Dustin Mundy, Devin Mundy; and great-grandchildren Chase Mundy and Layla Mundy. Those who knew Gary best speak of his warmth, his humor, and the joy he found in watching his family grow and thrive.
Gary is also remembered fondly by his sisters, Debbie Henry (husband Dan) and Sandy Luther (the late Dale). He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Ruth Ellen Mundy, whose memory he carried in his heart every day; and his parents, Robert and Alice Mundy, who raised a son whose character was as solid as the foundations they laid.
In every role he embraced—worker, husband, father, grandfather, and friend—Gary R. Mundy, Sr. left an indelible mark. His life was a beautiful mosaic of dedication, love, and spirited joy, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him. Though he has passed from this world, the love he shared and the laughter he inspired remain with us, a comforting reminder of a life well-lived.
