George Thomas Baxter, a kind and dedicated soul, was born on September 14, 1949, in Kansas City, Kansas, and passed away on December 22, 2024, in Alton, Illinois. He lived a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories, leaving behind an enduring legacy that will be remembered by his family and friends.

George proudly served in the United States Army, demonstrating his dedication to his country before returning to civilian life. He embarked on a successful career at Monsanto, now known as MEMC, where he worked as a crystal puller of silicon rods. He often reflected with pride on his role in the industry and found joy in sharing stories from his professional journey.

With a deep passion for history, George was an avid history buff who loved visiting military museums. He cherished the opportunity to converse about the past, captivating those around him with his vast knowledge. He held a special love for baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, which brought him joy and provided countless moments of excitement. George was not just a fan; he embodied the spirit of the game—a true enthusiast.

George's personality shined brightly in every interaction. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and his loving nature. Those who were fortunate enough to know him remember moments like singing military songs from a 25-story balcony while joyfully tossing paper airplanes in Washington, D.C. His adventurous spirit extended to the skies as a hot air balloon pilot, where he embraced the thrill of soaring above the earth, a clear reflection of his zest for life.

He was a proud graduate of Francis Howell High School and pursued higher education, further solidifying his commitment to lifelong learning. George found immense happiness in his roles as a father and grandfather, and he will be deeply missed by his family, who will carry forward the values he instilled in them. He is survived by his son, Paul C. (Jennifer) Baxter; two daughters, Heather J. (John) Patrick and Crystal S. (Phillip) James; and eight grandchildren: Anna, Hattie, River, Tyler, Abby, Cadence, Lyric, and Isiah. He also leaves behind his beloved sibling, Shirley (Eugene) Henderson, along with a host of other family members and friends who adored him.

George’s love story with his late wife, Charlotte Jean Baxter, was one of his proudest accomplishments. Together, they raised a wonderful family, filled with love and support, creating memories that will resonate through generations. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; his father, Roland William Baxter; his mother, Reba Rebecca Mewes; and three siblings, William Baxter, David Morgan, and Margie-Ann Baxter.

As we honor the memory of George Thomas Baxter, we reflect on a life lived fully, a heart that touched many, and a spirit that will forever inspire those he loved. The world is a little dimmer without him, yet his light will continue to shine through the lives he has touched.
