Listen to Obituary

Gleora Joan Walton passed away on October 12, 2026, in Chesterfield, Missouri, at the age of 87. She was born on November 25, 1938, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, where she grew up on a farm. In the early 1970s she moved to Farmington, New Mexico, where she lived for more than 40 years. She relocated to St. Charles, Missouri, in 2020, to live near her youngest son.

Gleora loved Elvis, trips to Vegas, and line-dancing as much as she loved gardening and attending services at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Farmington, New Mexico, where she was an active, longtime member.

She was a homemaker for many years, later working at J.C. Penney in Farmington, New Mexico, for more than 20 years before retiring at the age of 77. Gleora’s unique name (pronounced “Glee-or-uh”) was plucked from a birth notice her mother read in a newspaper, finding it a delightful name for a little girl.

Gleora is survived by three sons from her first marriage, James “Jim” Hoefs (and his wife, Mary), Robert Hoefs, and Ronald Hoefs, all of Wisconsin; and by one son from her second marriage, C. Dale Walton (and his wife, Shelley), of St. Charles, Missouri. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Nicole Hoefs and Pamela Hoefs; several great-grandchildren; a niece, Mariel “Mari” Seefeldt; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Grace Hein; her brother, Laverne Hein; her sister, Eleanor Hein; and her son, Gordon Hoefs Jr.

Her story will remain part of the lives and histories of those who knew her. There is peace in knowing that she is no longer suffering.
