Hiram Wesley King, lovingly known to so many as “Poppy,” passed away peacefully in his home in St. Peters, Missouri, on October 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 21, 1935, in Licking, Missouri, and lived a long life marked by devotion to family, hard work, kindness, and a warm, welcoming spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Hiram graduated from Licking High School with the Class of 1952. Soon after, he honorably served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, serving during the Korean War while stationed in Germany. He carried that sense of duty and commitment with him throughout his life.

He went on to build a career as a diesel mechanic with Local 777, Aerospace and Machinists, where he worked for 37 and a half years. He loved his job, and that dedication reflected the hardworking nature that defined him so well. Hiram was known as a loving, easygoing, happy man whose steady presence brought comfort and joy to those around him.

Outside of work, Hiram found happiness in working on cars and, above all, in spending time with his family. He was a truly gifted storyteller, someone who could hold a room with a memory, a laugh, or a simple conversation. Everyone called him Poppy, a name that spoke to the affection so many felt for him. He never knew a stranger and would quite literally talk to everyone, making friends wherever he went and leaving people better for having met him.

Among the greatest blessings of Hiram’s life was his marriage to his beloved wife, Bonnie King. Their 68 years together stand as a beautiful testament to love, faithfulness, and shared life. He was deeply proud of his children and grandchildren, and the family he helped build was one of his greatest accomplishments and deepest joys.

Hiram is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie King; his loving children, Sheila Schmierbach and her husband, Rick, and James King and his wife, Dana; his grandchildren, Tracy King, Holly Bertholf and her husband, Scott, Erica Beckman and her husband, Adam, Wesley King and his wife, Lexi, and Dominic Schmierbach; and his great-grandchildren, Asza, Noah, Isaac, Zack, Cory, Lucy, and Lillie. The love he gave to his family will remain with them always, and his memory will continue to live on in the stories they share, the laughter they remember, and the example of kindness and devotion he set for them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ruth King; his brothers, Lindsey King, Troy King, and Wayne King; and his sister, Alma King.

Hiram’s life was one of simple but profound gifts: a strong work ethic, a generous heart, a ready conversation, and a deep love for family. He will be remembered with great affection, missed beyond measure, and cherished always as Poppy.
