Listen to Obituary

Homer "Wally" Neeley—a master craftsman, devoted family man, and lover of peach pie—went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the age of 89. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Helen Neeley (née Rhodes); their three children, Christine (Charles) Sanders, Elaine Crocker, and Mark (Pauline) Neeley; seven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

A born-and-raised Arkansan from Corning, Wally's journey brought him to St. Louis in 1953, where he found both his career and the love of his life, Helen. His skilled hands built a life for his family through his work as a machinist at Crown Cork and Seal, a moonlighting mechanic, and an electrician for Famous Barr and the Parkmoor Restaurant.

True retirement never suited Wally. He poured his energy into managing his farm, complete with a fruit orchard for his winemaking experiments. His passion for community and craftsmanship led him to the Marble Hill Farmers Market, where he served as President and became a local fixture, known for his charm and wit. He spent his days in his workshop, designing and building benches, birdhouses, and planters to share with his loved ones.

A Celebration of Wally's life will be held on his farm this autumn. In lieu of flowers, please honor his memory with a donation to the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation or by planting a native dogwood tree in his name.
