Jack G. Barrett, born April 9, 1938, in St. Louis, passed away on June 5, 2026, leaving behind quite a legacy—if not a bit of chaos—for those who knew him. He graduated from Central High School, Class of 1957.
Jack was many things: loud, goofy, and irrepressibly the life of any party lucky enough to have him. His humor had a snarky edge, a feature that only made his loving, sweet, and generous nature all the more charming—or understandable if you sometimes needed earplugs. A time you wouldn't be searching for earplugs was when he began to sing - knowing every single word to all his favorite songs. He perfected the art of championship billiards play, dominated in horseshoe throwing, and once upon a younger and faster time, swam competitively enough to win several competitions. Not content with just dominating sports, he also mastered imperial dancing alongside his wife and dance partner, Barbara, proving he could lead with impressive flair.
Jack’s proudest accomplishment was spending 53 years alongside the love of his life, Barbara. They shared 41 of those years as a married couple, celebrating their anniversary every June 1st since 1985—a testament to endurance and probably patience—which brings us to the family he truly adored. Jack is survived by his wife, Barbara Barrett; his son Jack G. (Billie) Barrett Jr.; and a rather large tribe of step-children—Ronald (Tammy) Breen, James (Karen) Breen, Wade (Carrie) Breen, Kelly (David) Hoelscher, Cheryl (Dan) Voelkerding, and Dawn Voigt—who between them contribute to an extended family rich with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends, who no doubt have their own wild stories to tell about Jack.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, Roy Lester Barrett; mother, Mildred Jewett Barrett; daughter, Linda Thompson; and two sons, Brian Barrett and Gary Barrett. Losing family members is tough for anyone, but Jack faced it with the same resilient spirit he showed in every other aspect of life.
Those wishing to celebrate or commiserate with Jack can do so with a visitation at Newcomer Funeral Home, St. Peters, MO, on June 12, 2026, starting from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at the same location from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The graveside service will carry on at St. Charles Memorial Gardens, St. Charles, MO, at 2:30 p.m.
Jack G. Barrett’s story is one of laughter, love, great shots on the billiards table, and a life well-lived—just as he would have wanted it. If you knew him, you’ll miss him loud and clear.
