James “Jim” McCullen passed away on August 31, 2026, at the age of 88. He was born on June 4, 1938.

Jim will be remembered as a caring man who was always concerned for others and who could make anyone laugh. He always seemed to have a joke to tell, and his warmth and sense of humor left a lasting impression on those around him. He also loved sports, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life.

He graduated from high school and then went on to serve in the Army Reserves. Later in life, he then went on to take machinist courses at Rankin College. Jim retired from Continental Can Company and Hussman Refrigeration, bringing dedication to his career over many years.

Athletics and the outdoors were among Jim’s greatest enjoyments. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball at parks across town. He also loved playing tennis, volleyball, softball, hiking, and traveling with his wife. Beyond sports and travel he also loved the outdoors, collecting rocks and other keepsakes from nature. He especially enjoyed walking along the water, finding peace and pleasure in the outdoors.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Rhonda (Michael) Carranza and Kimberly (Tom) Dehner. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Ryan (Kayla Kneemiller) Boyle, Samantha Carranza, and Miranda Dehner; his great-grandchildren, Kane Boyle and Kenadi Boyle; and his sister, Rosemarie “Dolly” (Steve) Litteken. He will be deeply missed by his family and by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Caroline McCullen; father, John McCullen; his mother, Helen Jean McCullen.

Jim’s life was marked by humor, kindness, hard work, and a love for family, sports, and the outdoors. His memory will be cherished by those whose lives he touched.
