Listen to Obituary

Karins, Jean Anne (Quense) 94, died peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Thomas, daughter Nancy, and her brothers Walt and Jack. She leaves behind five children: Tom, Bob, Sue, Jim and Eileen, as well as 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Jean was born in Jersey City, NJ in 1932. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School class of 1949 in Montclair, NJ.

Jean and Tom were married in 1952. They spent their early married life in New Jersey and Maryland, and then made the move to St. Louis in 1966. Raising six children and managing a household was a full-time job, which Jean executed lovingly. When her youngest child entered kindergarten, Jean returned to school and earned certification to work as an operating room technician at Faith Hospital in West County for many years, fulfilling a lifelong desire to work in healthcare.

Jean’s Catholic faith and devotion extended beyond her family to serving others. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital St. Louis and was a dedicated liaison for the Passionist Nuns at their convent. She and Tom forged lasting friendships with the Sisters.

Retirement bought opportunities for Jean and Tom to travel internationally as well as extra time for grandchildren and coordinating annual family reunions at the beach in Florida. These trips created lasting memories for their children and grandchildren. Jean enjoyed golfing with Tom and in her ladies group and she was a serious bridge player. Their once bustling home became a peaceful haven where the two of them shared precious time with one another.

Jean was a strong woman who lived her life with grace, gratitude and commitment to her family and to God.

Thank you for your unconditional love, Mom. We miss you. We love you.
