Jean Andreae Shaw

Jean Andreae Shaw, a beloved writer and dedicated servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on April 9, 1929, in Amsterdam, NY, Jean's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with faith, love, and community.

As a prolific writer, Jean authored several Christian books and contributed monthly columns to various Christian magazines, sharing her insights with readers far and wide. Her thoughtful devotional book on Ecclesiastes, titled "The Better Half Of Life," remains a cherished resource in churches and nursing homes, reflecting her deep commitment to her faith and her desire to uplift others through her words.

Jean was married to her beloved husband, Gordon, for an extraordinary 75 years. Together, they crafted a life steeped in love and shared purpose, demonstrating what it means to walk hand in hand in Christ through life's many seasons.

She is survived by her devoted sons, Andrew (Pam) Shaw and Peter (Sherry) Shaw, along with her cherished daughters, Carol (Tim) Fassler and Julia (Jeff) Stillwell. The legacy of her love lives on in the next generation as she adored her grandchildren: Melissa Shaw, Michelle (Than) Baylor, Matthew (Rachel) Shaw, Kaye (Bryan) Haldy, Mark (Alcian) Shaw, Michael (Gretchen) Shaw, Nathan (Kerry) Shaw, Ryan (Allyson) Fassler, and Andreae (Austin) Schuster. Each of her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she treasured the moments spent with them. Jean's spirit continued to shine with the arrival of her great-grandchildren, including Nathan Baylor, Katherine Shaw, Rayce Haldy, Katya Baylor, Keon Haldy, Solstice Haldy, Ruby Shaw, Harbor Haldy, Shepherd Shaw, Gloria Shaw, Zeah Haldy, Archer Schuster, Ethan Shaw, James Fassler, Veronica Shaw, Thomas Fassler, Lydia Shaw, Ashton Schuster, Dwelle Haldy, and Jeremiah Shaw, as well as Avery Fassler. Another great-grandchild - Joanna Shaw will join the family soon. Each of these little ones carries a piece of her legacy, and she delighted in their laughter and accomplishments.

Jean was preceded in death by her loving parents, Rev. Marcus C. T. Andreae and Helen Friesendorf Andreae, and her dear brother, Marcus (Mae) Andreae. Their memories lived on in the stories she shared and the traditions she upheld.

Her education was a testament to her dedication to family and spiritual growth; she earned a Master's degree in Marriage & Family Living from Northern Illinois University and a Master's degree in Biblical Studies from Covenant Theological Seminary. These academic achievements undoubtedly enriched her writing and provided her with tools to support those around her.

Jean's spirit shone brightly through her passion for bringing people together. Known for her warmth and hospitality, she loved hosting dinners, skillfully combining her gift for cooking with her ability to create joyful gatherings. The kitchen was a place of constant creativity for her, where she experimented with new recipes and prepared legendary dishes that delighted family and friends alike. This ministry of fellowship created countless happy memories, leaving an indelible impact on those who were fortunate enough to partake in her gatherings.

A charter member of Chesterfield Presbyterian Church, Jean was deeply engaged in her community. She took great delight in her involvement with the Joy Group ministry, where her heart for service and connection flourished. Additionally, she served on the board of Cornerstone, a St. Louis city ministry focused on repairing and rehabbing homes in underprivileged neighborhoods, demonstrating her commitment to improving the lives of others and her belief in the power of community.

Her love for gardening resulted in the cultivation of breathtaking flowers, which brought beauty not only to her own home but also to those who were touched by her green thumb. Jean's nurturing spirit extended beyond the garden as she lived a life grounded in strong Christian faith, embodying the grace of God in all her interactions.

In her later years, Jean found comfort in the promise of eternal life with her heavenly Father, and we all rejoice in the knowledge that she is now home, surrounded by divine grace. Her unwavering faith and close relationship with her Lord and Savior served as a testament to her character and provided solace to those who loved her.

Jean Andreae Shaw leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and community that will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing her. She was a faithful servant whose life reflected the boundless love of God, and while she will be deeply missed, her impact will endure for generations to come.
