Listen to Obituary

Jeffrey Scott Long, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, in Chesterfield, Missouri. Born on May 28, 1951, in Seattle, Washington, Jeff’s life was marked by dedication, joy, and a profound love for those around him.

Jeff was a true character—goofy and full of life—known for his fondness for bad dad jokes and a lifelong passion for the Muppets. He cared deeply for his family, especially delighting in time spent with his grandchildren and his cherished dogs. Beyond his immediate family, he extended his warmth and guidance as an honorary “dad” to many of his children’s childhood friends, embodying the role of mentor and steadfast friend.

A graduate of Shoreline High School in Seattle, class of 1969, Jeff went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Central Washington University, graduating in 1980. His professional life was defined by commitment and entrepreneurial spirit, as he built and ran his own accounting practice in Branson, Missouri for 28 years before retiring in 2020.

Jeff's service to his country was notable; he served honorably as a mortar platoon leader in Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 161st Infantry Regiment of the United States Army National Guard. This chapter of his life underscored his sense of duty and leadership, qualities that permeated every aspect of his life.

Outside of his professional and military careers, Jeff was an accomplished woodworker whose creativity and skill brought beauty into the everyday. His adventurous spirit in younger years led him to enjoy hiking, skiing, scuba diving, and he was known among friends for his appreciation for Volkswagen vehicles. Jeff was also a BBQ enthusiast, who was a proud member of the "J and J BBQ" group, seeking out the best dive BBQ joints everywhere.

Among Jeff’s proudest achievements was earning the rank of Eagle Scout, a testament to his character and perseverance. Yet, more than any accolade, he was immensely proud of his three children and all they accomplished, carrying that pride in his heart every day.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Marcia Long; his devoted children, Staci (Geoff) Kopp, Bradi (Jason) Slauson, and Jeffrey (Abbey) Long Jr.; and his treasured grandchildren, Grayson Kopp, Jackson Long, Maggie Long, Sydney Slauson, and Blake Slauson. His family circle also includes his niece Renee Schmidt and nephew Liam Olsen, who remain a source of comfort and support.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Kenneth Long; mother, Katherine Long; sister, Susan Olsen; and brother, Michael Long.

Jeff was a man of great faith, and his unique spirit, unwavering love, and joyful presence will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. His life leaves a legacy of laughter, kindness, and strength that will continue to inspire his family and friends for generations to come.

Friends, family, and all who were touched by Jeff’s warmth and kindness will gather to honor his memory.
