Jimmy Allen Payne, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated Vietnam Veteran, passed away on April 11, 2025, at the age of 79, in St. Peters, Missouri. Born on May 1, 1945, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Jim embodied the spirit of an independent and hardworking man throughout his life.
Jimmy was well known for his remarkable forty-year career as a long-haul truck driver. He skillfully hauled various loads, ranging from steel to produce and everything in between. His work ethic was not just a profession but a testament to his commitment and dedication to providing for his family. To all who knew him, his biggest goal was to ensure his family was always provided for as best he could.
Beyond his career, Jimmy had various interests that enriched his life. In his later years, he developed a passion for reading, particularly enjoying fiction. He found great pleasure in growing vegetables during the summer.
A loyal friend and cherished family member, Jimmy's personality shone through in his relationships. He created lasting bonds with those who were fortunate enough to know him. His love for animals was evident, as he was always a devoted dog lover.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley Payne; his son, Jimmy Payne, Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Payne; and his grandchildren, Jessye Davenport, Melissa Hughley, Zachary Payne, Seth Brown, Owen Brown, Nicholas Payne, and his great-grandson, Ian Kinsey.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, George and Beulah Payne, brother Bobbie Payne, and daughter, Cindy (Payne) Brown, whose memories will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
A memorial gathering will be held on April 19, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, Missouri. The address is 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, MO 63376.
