Joan Marie Smith, Fortified with the sacraments of the Holy Mother Church on May 24, 2026. Joan was a School Bus Driver for the Francis Howell School District, where she played a vital role in the daily lives of countless children, ensuring their safe journey to and from school with care and attentiveness.
Throughout her life, Joan nurtured a variety of interests that reflected her vibrant personality and creative spirit. She was an avid reader who found joy and inspiration within the pages of many books. Her skill and patience in crocheting were well-known among those who admired her handiwork. A passionate participant in Civil War reenacting, Joan embraced history with enthusiasm and respect, bringing the past to life through her involvement. Additionally, Joan enjoyed cooking and baking, especially famous for her peach and apple cobbler—favorites among family and friends alike.
Joan was married to Robert Joseph Smith, who preceded her in death. Her family was a central part of her life, and she is survived with love and remembrance by her sons, Michael Smith and his wife Angela, and Kenneth Smith and his wife Katherine. She took great pride in her grandchildren, Madison, Emerson, Harrison, and Augustin, who carried forward her legacy of love and warmth.
Joan’s familial bonds extended to her brothers, Robert Schneider and his wife Mary, Bill Schneider, and Don Schneider, all of whom survive her. She was also dearly connected with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a broad circle of friends who valued her genuine kindness and generous heart.
Her passing follows that of her parents, Edwin J. Schneider and Marie T. Schneider; brother, Edwin T. Schneider; and sisters-in-law, Martha Schneider, Charlotte Schneider and Barbara Schneider. Their memories remain cherished as part of the enduring fabric of Joan’s life story.
