John "Jack" Edward Bligh

John “Jack” Edward Bligh’s life began on April 19, 1948 in St Louis, Missouri, and it ended peacefully—surrounded by his loving family—at Lake St Louis, Missouri, on August 12, 2026. Though Jack has left this world, his presence lingers in the joy he sparked and the indelible impact he had on everyone around him.

Jack was a man who filled every room he entered. Loud, unapologetically gregarious, and never afraid to give everyone “the business,” he was a force of nature—sarcastic, joking, and, above all else, deeply loving. To know Jack was to feel the thrill of his wit, the warmth of his laughter, and the comfort of his unwavering support. His fun-loving personality formed the heartbeat of every gathering, and his dance—a triumphant jig when he’d landed a particularly solid burn—was an art form all its own, delighting both family and friends.

His early life in St Louis foreshadowed a future marked by service, dedication, and profound love. Jack proudly served his country as a member of the US Army, answering the call in Vietnam and later finding camaraderie and purpose among fellow veterans at VFW Post #2866. After retiring from the Army, Jack carried the values of loyalty, honor, and steadfastness into every sphere of his life.

It was in April of 1973, just a few days after his birthday, that Jack married the love of his life, Mieko Kihara. Together, they made their home in Saint Peters, Missouri, building a partnership that radiated commitment, humor, and care for over 53 years. This union was Jack’s anchor, and its enduring strength stands as one of his proudest accomplishments.

Family was at the very center of Jack’s world. He was a beloved husband, reveling in the shared adventures and everyday joys with Mieko. As a father to Robin M. Bligh, his pride and affection were boundless, and he cherished every moment as her dad. When his grandson, Jackson M. Ward, was born—his name an echo and acknowledgment of Jack’s own—Jack embraced his new role wholeheartedly, also becoming an “honorary father” and “honorary grandfather” and setting a standard of what it means to care fiercely, generously, and without reservation.

Jack’s legacy is also enriched by memories of laughter and shared teasing—his presence so strong that even those who knew him briefly would remember his jokes, his outspoken candor, and the unique dance he performed when especially pleased with himself. His sense of humor was legendary; his fun-loving antics brought lightness to even the heaviest of days.

Jack now reunites with those who went before him: his father, John P. Bligh, Sr.; his mother, Eileen D. Bligh; and his brothers, Richard T. Bligh and Timothy P. Bligh. The memories he created with them endure, treasured by those who remain.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mieko; his cherished daughter, Robin M. Bligh; and his beloved grandson, Jackson M. Ward. The love he poured into his family and friends continues as an unbreakable thread, binding together generations with strength, humor, and compassion.

Family, friends, and all whose lives were enlivened by Jack’s spirit are invited to gather in remembrance. Visitation will be held on August 19, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, Missouri. The funeral service will follow on August 20, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the same location. Jack will be laid to rest in a graveside service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 12:30 PM.

Though words fail to capture the full depth of Jack Bligh’s influence and the color he brought to life, the echo of his laughter remains, and the legacy of his love endures.
