John Edward Knapp

August 3, 1948 — May 6, 2025

Bridgeton, Missouri

John Edward Knapp, age 76, a devoted minister and beloved family man, was born on August 3, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 6, 2025, in Chesterfield, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories.

Prior to spending three decades in Ministry, John was a shoe salesman and he often said, "I was first in the Sole Business before joining the Soul Business." John served earnestly as a minister at various churches, including Hazelwood Baptist Church in Hazelwood, Missouri, First Baptist Church in Madison, Illinois, Mount Olive Baptist Church in Russellville, Missouri, First Baptist Church in Bernie, Missouri, and Villebrook Baptist Church in Hazelwood, Missouri. His unwavering faith and dedication to his ministry touched countless lives, guiding many on their spiritual journeys.

John’s educational journey began at Ritenour High School, leading him to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1981. It was here that he cultivated the knowledge and passion that would inspire him throughout his life and career.

Beyond his ministry, John had a vibrant personality full of compassion and kindness. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, eating at White Castle, and spending time at many family gatherings. A devoted sports fan, he spent many an afternoon watching the Cardinals baseball team, St. Louis Blues hockey, and Kansas City Chiefs football. His enthusiasm for these teams echoed his love for conversation, particularly when it involved discussions about Heaven, a topic close to his heart. Music also played an important role in his life; he cherished Southern Gospel music, and he could always be found watching a Gaither's video.

Above all, John adored his family. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife Patricia, with whom he shared 54 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and faith. John took immense pride in his three daughters, Melinda (John) Leible, Carrie (Benjamin) Kendall, and Emily Newcom, and he found indescribable happiness in the company of his three grandsons, Jace Antweiler, Isaac James Kendall, and Dillon Kendall. His family was his greatest joy, and he consistently reminded them of his deep love and admiration.

John is also survived by his brother Bill (Sharon) Knapp, along with many other loved family members and friends who will carry his spirit forward in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Knapp; his mother, Nina Whaley nee Morris; his step-father, Marvin Whaley; his brother, Mark Knapp; his sister, Beth Ann Knapp, and his sister-in-law Vicki Wolff whose family brings many fond memories.

John will be remembered not only for his ministry and faith but also for his genuine compassion, humor, and unwavering support of his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will surely endure through the generations that follow him.
