John W. Stankoven passed away on October 1, 2026, at the age of 61.
Born on October 17, 1964, John built a life centered on devotion to his family and his faith. He worked for Boeing for 39 years as an engineer, bringing dedication and commitment to a career that spanned nearly four decades.
John had a deep love for sports and was an avid University of Illinois fan and alumnus. He was also a loyal Seattle Seahawks fan. His enthusiasm for athletics was matched by the care he gave to his children as a father. He was a very involved parent who helped coach in every sport they participated in, creating lasting memories through time spent on fields, courts, and sidelines. He also loved to travel, and some of his happiest vacations were trips to Disney World and cruises. Above all, family and faith were everything to him.
He was especially proud to be “Poppy” to his two grandsons, a role that brought him great joy. John is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Stankoven; his daughter, Courtney Jones and her husband, Nathan; his son, Jordan Stankoven and his wife, Rylee; his grandsons, Liam Jones and Noah Jones; his mother, Kathryn Stankoven; his sister, Karen Howard and her husband, Scott; his nephews, Zac Howard and Jake Howard; his niece, Brenae Howard; and many other family members and friends who will remember him with love.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Stankoven.
John will be remembered for his steady presence, his love of family, his strong faith, and the joy he found in cheering on those he loved most. His memory will continue to live on in the lives of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
