Listen to Obituary

Kathleen Mary “Kay” Whinery, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, left this world peacefully in her home in St. Charles, Missouri, on July 10, 2026, surrounded by the loving embrace of her family. Born September 7, 1937, in St Louis, Missouri, Kay’s life was defined by grace, devotion, and a steadfast love of family and faith.

Kay’s story is one of enduring bonds and joyful memories. She was the daughter of Henry and Agnes Harrington, both of whom preceded her in death, as well as her devoted husband of 59 years, C. Roy Whinery, with whom she shared a remarkable journey filled with adventure, laughter, and deep companionship. Kay’s heart and home were also shaped by the memory of her beloved daughter, Mary Kathleen Whinery.

The fabric of Kay’s life was woven tightly with her family. She is survived by her son Chuck Whinery and daughter-in-law Nettie, daughters Nancee Fogg and her husband Tim, Lynn Ayers, Jenn Young, and Wendy Swift with her husband David. Her legacy blossoms through her treasured twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.

Kay’s love extended far beyond her family. Her spirit was defined by kindness, humility, gratitude, and an unwavering desire to lend a helping hand. Described by all who knew her as loving, caring, and thoughtful, Kay found fulfillment in enriching the lives of others—always stepping forward to volunteer at church and in her community, quietly leaving an indelible mark wherever she went.

A dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Kay derived immense joy from bustling events such as hosting bingos and fish fries, always eager to nurture laughter and connection. She cherished moments spent dancing, bowling, and traveling, never missing an opportunity to have fun with her husband and beloved family. Even in small and joyful moments, like convincing Roy to attend a yoga class, Kay found ways to celebrate life’s simple blessings and strengthen her bonds with those she loved.

Her faith was a guiding light, fueling her profound relationship with God and sustaining her through all of life’s triumphs and trials. Volunteering for causes dear to her heart was an important part of who Kay was—most notably through her dedication to the Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Service “Adopt a Family” program, where her gentle generosity lifted up countless others.

In her final journey, Kay’s gratitude knew no bounds for Lynn, Jesse, and Annette, along with the entire family whose loving care made it possible for her to remain at home, embraced until her peaceful goodbye. Their devotion is a reflection of the love Kay herself gave throughout her life.

Kay’s story is one marked by humility, unwavering faith, abiding love, and selfless kindness—a legacy cherished by all who were blessed to know her. Her spirit lives on in the grateful hearts she touched, in the laughter that echoes in family gatherings, and in the steady hope she inspired through her example.
