Kathleen “Kathy” Schroeder passed away surrounded by the love of her family.

If you asked Kathy what her greatest accomplishment in life was, she would never have mentioned anything other than being Gene’s wife, a mother to her children, and a grandmother to the grandchildren she adored. She faithfully lived out that calling for more than five decades, never ceasing to care for those she loved. There was no love quite like Kathy’s love for her grandchildren. They always knew they were treasured, prayed for, and loved beyond measure.

Kathy believed one of her greatest purposes in life was to make sure her children and grandchildren knew Jesus Christ. She didn’t simply plant the seeds of faith—she nurtured them every day through the way she loved, encouraged, prayed for, and cared for those around her. She lived the words of the Lord’s Prayer, “Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,” surrendering her life to God’s purpose and allowing Him to work through her hands as she served, her heart as she loved, her ears as she listened, and her eyes as she saw the needs of others. Through her faithful example, she showed her family what the love of Christ looks like, and her legacy of faith will continue for generations to come.

A faithful Catholic throughout her life, Kathy lived with kindness, humility, and compassion. She had a gentle heart and cared deeply about the people in her life. She never wanted anyone to feel hurt or forgotten, and if she thought someone was upset with her, it weighed heavily on her until she could make things right. She valued harmony, kindness, and forgiveness above pride, and her genuine concern for others was one of the many qualities that made her so deeply loved.

Friendship came naturally to Kathy. She had an incredible ability to connect with people, and it seemed as though everyone she met became a friend. Her circle of friends was simply too large to count, a testament to the kindness, warmth, and love she shared so freely throughout her life. While she cherished every friendship she made, she was especially grateful for the close-knit group of lifelong friends who stood beside her through the joys and challenges of life. Their love, laughter, and unwavering support were among life’s greatest blessings.

One of the greatest blessings of Kathy’s life was the marriage she shared with Gene. They met when they were just fifteen years old and spent the next sixty years together, including fifty-seven years of marriage. Like any marriage, it wasn’t always easy, and they could both be stubborn, but through every challenge they remained devoted to one another.

They were true partners in every sense of the word. Whether raising their family or literally building their lake house with their own hands, they did it side by side. Kathy wasn’t afraid of hard work and could often be found nailing siding, laying stone on the fireplace, or mudding drywall alongside Gene. Their favorite joke was that they would “put five pounds of mud on and sand five pounds off.” Together, they built not only a home, but a lifetime of love, faith, and memories.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, William Dennis Hunt and Dolores Francis Hunt (née Vetz); her brothers, William “Bill” Hunt, Patrick Hunt, and Gregory Hunt; and her sister-in-law, Joan Hunt.

She is survived by her devoted husband of fifty-seven years, Eugene “Gene” Schroeder; her children, Darlene (Mark) Dowdy, Amy (Jon) Blevins, and Joe (Shauna) Schroeder; her beloved grandchildren, Wade Blevins, Macie (Sam) Smith, Breeleigh Schroeder, and Blaine Schroeder; her sister, Suzanne (Harold) Piper; her brother, Tim Hunt; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, cherished friends, and all whose lives were blessed by knowing her.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 837 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters, Missouri 63376.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 4, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1223 Church Road, St. Paul, Missouri 63366. Burial will immediately follow at Ste. Philippine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Research Institute (CRI) in memory of Kathleen “Kathy” Schroeder.
